Going smoothly until...

Recommended Posts

Fellow junies, everything has been going smoothly, have had 2 fills so my 9.75 band that holds 4cc has 2.2cc.

My last fill was about 7 weeks ago.

I'm still restricted.

Over the past few days I can't hold anything down. Slime everyday. But now I foam up fluids and around midnight or 1am I wake to choking on my slobber.

It's been said that sometimes restriction doesn't kick in until 2-3 weeks after a fill...but I'm 7 weeks out.

Has anyone at all gone thru this? I'm not running for an unfill just in case this is temporary swelling or something. After getting rid of my lunch today I've decided to do ONLY fluids for a few days and if I don't feel any better, I'll call the doc on Monday.

I'm self pay so I like to handle things on my own first then go to a doc if I can't remedy it. And going a few days w/o food isn't going to hurt anything. If I don't eat I can get fluids down, so I'm not in any harm.

Thanks for the advice.

I have the same problem. My fill didn't click in until about 3 weeks later. Had only 2 fills in a 10cc band. (2 1/2cc) Some things I have no problem with , like Soups and things with gravy and crunchy stuff. Sometimes I can only have a small amount and get a burning and hurting sensation. I know I must have ate to fast or too much. I was banded June 18, 2007 and I'm still learning what and how to eat. I guess I'm a slow learner.

Yeah - some liquids for a couple of days should help reduce the swelling. Maybe it just got irritated from something and is just staying too tight with you trying to eat. It's a vicious cycle sometimes

{{hugs}} to you!

I was in the same situation a few months ago, and if you don't mind, I will share with you what I did. I felt the exact same. I came to this board looking for advice, which I do regularly. I appreciate everyones comments, and everyones advice. Each comment is sincere, and I chose to agree with many, and have an unfill. I suffered for 1 week with sliming and PBng. Lost 15 pounds in that week. Although the weightloss was wonderful, I was miserable.. Now, in hindsight, when I look back. I was scared. I just needed to know that it would be okay. Like I mentioned, I had an unfill. Would I do the same all over again? Not a chance. Since I had the unfill, I have struggled to get any restriction. That fill was 7ml in a VG band. Now, I am currently at 7.6 with no restriction at all. Because of the unfill, the doctor is hesitant in doing fills, and I am only getting 0.1-0.2 each time I go. I am so frustrated and wish that I could turn back time. I would have suffered through it. Again, just sharing my situation with you. Ultimately, you will decide what is best for you. Good Luck, and HUGS to you ....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
