I am a little over 2 years out from RNY and thinking about skin removal. Someone mentioned going out of the country for plastics. Is it cheaper?

Having had several experiences in this area, cheaper should absolutely not be the goal when considering skin removal surgery.

I have had a brachioplasty (arm lift), full abdominalplasty (tummy tuck), Breast lift with augmentation and a full face lift. Consider interviewing several plastic surgeons and choose one that you are comfortable with because you will build a relationship with them that will last quite some time.

Many people do not realize that plastics is not a simple surgery where you go and have a consultation, the surgery and a simple follow up. Our bodies require many many many sutures that can require months and months of follow up care. The after care you receive following plastics is just as critical as the surgery itself and if you choose a doctor that is closer, they usually cover all of those visits. Even if you only plan to have one procedure now....check out the team because once you have one and see the results you might find you want to go through the next step.

I was very thrilled with my team and my results and because of that I had more procedures that I ever thought I would. And let me tell you, it is no walk in the park. Plastics is painful and long road to recovery but absolutely worth it when you choose the right team.

I have had no complications and because I stuck with the same surgical team, I have been treated to free laser treatments for the bruises following my face lift and even free Botox for 2 rounds in my chin.

I researched for many many months and what I learned was, do not focus on getting it done cheap, focus on finding the right surgical team. You need to be very comfortable with who you are working with and the approach they are taking with you. You are in control.

@Djmohr thank you for your response. I am glad you have such a great team and have had a good experience with plastics. At this point I am only thinking about having it done because I know recovery will be difficult and I have a physical job in health care.

You should probably wait another year or two for plastics if you really want the best results

I have had plastics in Bangkok I had my Arms, Circumference Tummy, excess back skin, breast reduction and breast lift. All of the procedures were done over a 2 week period and then I stayed a further 2 weeks to be monitored. All went well and I was totally happy with the results. I did have a stitch in my arm become infected and went back to have the Dr remove the stitch and clean it up. All it took was to keep it clean and keep using Betadine on it. So in my case I had a very positive experience going over seas for plastics. Yes it still cost a lot about 30K including accommodation and flights for my Husband and myself but it was 60k at home.
Don’t go into it thinking you are going to look like a model our skin has been stretched you will scar but if you follow your Drs advice you will be very happy with the results.
I also would use the same Dr and travel once again if I wanted further surgery

Does anyone have any experience with the plastic surgeons at CER Clinic in Tijuana? That's where I had my VSG and had a throughly positive experience, so I'm considering returning to one of the plastic surgeons. I've been fortunate in regards to not having any loose skin, but I am considering plastics to remove breast implants I've regretted ever since getting them at age 18. Since becoming slimmer it's made them more prominent, disproportionally large for my frame, and are now sagging a little due to the weight loss.

I am also going to look into local surgeons but since I'm in LA they tend to be pricy, and Mexico is a very easy drive.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
