Strawberries allowed? 8 weeks post-op

Recommended Posts

Hi! I'm 8 weeks post-op and wondering if strawberries are ok to eat/add to smoothies? ! I only had to see a nutritionist pre-op and I vaguely remember her saying something negative about strawberries.... I think something about the seeds.

I was at my surgeon's office this week and he pretty much said all healthy options are open now, but I forgot to ask!!!

Any info would be helpful.

thanks!

Why not?

If you are keeping your Protein consumption and overall carbs consumption in perspective, you should be abe to include some fresh or frozen strawberries in your diet.

I've heard that they should be avoided in the early days because the seeds could irritate the healing suture line or get caught. 8 weeks out, I'm sure you're safe.

I eat them pretty regularly now. I'm about 8 weeks, too. They don't cause me any problems.

If you want to be extra safe, pour your smoothy slowly and discard the last couple of tablespoons....most of the seeds gather at the bottom.

I’m 14 months out and still can’t eat them. They cause a lot of acid. Never did in the past. Early on you don’t want the seeds to irritate the pouch. But after you fully heal there’s no reason you can’t have them. Except for the sugar content. And if like me you get acid after eating them.

I put frozen strawberries in the blender with my Protein Shakes from week one. My program had no restrictions on strawberries and they never caused a problem.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
