People keep asking me what my “goal” weight is. And I have no idea what to say. I’ve been well over 350 pounds most of my adult life...so I have no idea what I’ll look like at 200, or even 250! My goal is to feel better in my body, to be able to ride a bike or go for a walk or ride a dang rollercoaster with my daughter!!

But secretly, I hope to make it to “One-derland”. Even if it’s 199! Lol

You don't have to have a goal weight. I picked one simply by BMI to satisfy the surgery gods but in all honesty, I don't think it will be clinically possible for me to be 190 and 6'4". It's more realistically for me to be simply under 220. I am trying a new approach this time around. Previously, when losing weight I had really lofty goals (quite possibly unrealistic) so this time, all I want to do is simply get healthy. In the past I set really hard goals and the moment that I had a serious set back, everything unraveled. I know that I have a medical tendency toward severe depression so this time I am not setting myself up for failure. My goal is to live healthy in mind, body, and spirit - My only goal is ending the cycle of sickness.

I actually asked my surgeon that very same question. He told me not to put a number on it. My ultimate goal should be to become 100% healthy. He said that numbers alone aren't enough. My surgeon also had a VSG several months ago--and looks super good, I'll tell you!!-- revealed that although he feels amazing, he's not off of all his meds yet and would like to lose about10-15 more pounds.

With that said, I put mine smack in the middle of 'normal weight' for my height, cuz that would be awesome! 😜 But honestly, I'll take healthy and strong over a number any day.

We are all more that the statistics...With the sleeve they say 60% of your weight lost is the norm..Many people have lost more.

I choose not to be a statistic.

My group uses a metabolic test to determine our true body fat percentage....then they figure out what our weight would be at 25-30% body fat (because this is what is considered healthy for women).

My goal weight turned out to be 170. If I went by BMI charts, it would be closer to 155...but BMI is really not accurate if you're a someone who is larger or smaller framed who carries more or less muscle than usual.

I'm a broad shouldered, bigger person with a lot of muscle....so I was more interested shooting for appropriate body fat percentage. 170 seems like a very reasonable goal. I was 170 in highschool and extremely athletic:)

I love this!! I think it sums it up perfectly. I don’t have a weight in mind but I cannot wait to see how I feel as I start losing!

Goal weight almost feels like personal information. Someone (not medical person) asked me what mine is and I felt like I stammered the number out. Unsure if the person thought my goal weight is realistic, I asked, "Do you think that's realistic for my height?" This person thought so, however, why am I justifying my number by getting confirmation of its appropriateness? Whether we choose one or not is up to us and our number is up to us and we can choose to share it or not. I almost feel like I have to guard my goal weight like a social security number following that awkward experience. lol

Best wishes for continued success. Enjoy the adventure. :206_cat:

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
