Everyone on a pre-op diet: how's it going?

Recommended Posts

Seems everyone has a different regiment to follow, so was wondering how everyone is coping? What's your program?

My program is this: two Meal Replacement shakes, two Snacks - one is two pieces of low fat string cheese and the other one is a piece of fruit (which I save for dessert) and one meal consisting of 4 ounces of lean meat, poultry and fish, a cup of raw or steamed veggies and two slices of whole grain pepperidge farm veri thin bread. It's about 800 calories a day.

This is day 9 for me. It hasn't been too terrible because at least I get to chew something for one meal (and believe me, I really look forward to it!). One thing that helps me with the Meal Replacement shake is blending in some ice - enough that I can crunch on that too.

Strength-wise I'm in the pits. I just don't have the energy to do much, but do try to stay as busy as I can given the lightheadedness and such.

How 'bout y'all?

Hello...

My pre-op diet consists of three Meal Replacements and one meal of lean protein/veg....all of which should not go over 1,000 calories a day. I've been doing it since 10/14...and it's been a real biatch, but worth it since I've been losing weight. I'll find out tomorrow if UHC has approved my surgery....I'm hoping they do, because I really don't want to have to do this pre-op diet twice.

Hi,

I am on day 12 of my 14 day pre-op diet.

I am doing Optifast, so am allowed 3 shakes a day, plus 2 cups of low starch veges and sugar free jelly, ice blocks etc. (up to about 800 cals)

I found the first 2 days were the hardest, as I was starving, but now I am not even drinking my 3 shakes a day, and not feeling hungry. I have lost 6.4kg (approx. 14 lbs) so I am really happy, and ready for surgery "in 2 more sleeps" as my children say.

Hi Everyone,

I'm on day 4... Surgery is Nov. 9th. I'm allowed 1000 calories. 5 shakes, clear broth, SF Jello, SF ice pops, 2 cups of veggies, 2 tablespoons of FF dressing and all the "no calorie" drinks I want. Can't even get 5 shakes in. I'm starving people!!! Cheated with FF 1/2 & 1/2 in my coffee this morning...

Everyone is doing soooo good! Good luck to all my fellow banders to be!

Maria

Wow. I have my PCP appt, psych appt, and surgeon appt on 11/5. I know that I will have to do a pre-surg diet. I'm not looking forward to that; but I know with God on my side, I will be able to do it.

Can't wait until 11/5 when that day is over!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
