Booking my gastric sleeve

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I’m 5 ft 4 and weigh 19stone 7 live in the uk. I’m booking a gastric sleeve. I see my surgeon next week and have been told I can have op as early as two weeks once started on pre op diet.

What are your views? Things you found hardest, biggest regrets??

My biggest fear is that I’ll constantly be sick which I hate hence choosing this instead of the band. How long did you all need off work?

Thanks K x

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. My sleeve was the best thing that has happened to me. I started this journey 356.6 lbs (I’m 5 foot 3 in) and was sleeved on Aug 15. Today I’m down 104 lbs. still have a lot to go though. My surgery was a Tuesday, I went home Thursday and went out with my husband and kids Saturday. I was able to start back to school 11 days later (I’m a teacher)

Follow your doctors orders. Listen to what your body tells you and try to move as much as you can even if it’s just around your home.

Best of luck to you!

No regrets. The first 2 weeks can be tough for some folks, but short of unlikely issues you should be good to do work after 2-3 weeks, just no heavy lifting. It’s normal at this stage to be nervous. If you follow the diet and food progression plan you shouldn’t feel sick beyond the first couple of weeks as you heal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
