HI, I'M BRAND NEW.

I'VE HAD MY PSYCHOLOGICAL CLEARANCE AND CARDIAC CLEARANCE. NEXT WOULD BE PAYING FOR IT. IT'S COSTING ME $16,500. I'M SURE IT WILL BE WORTH IT. NEXT STEP WOULD BE THE 4-HR CLASS AND THEN I CAN HAVE THE SURGERY IN 2 WEEKS.

VERY AFRAID OF THE SURGERY. MAY I SAY THAT I AM A MAJOR WIMP WHEN IT COMES TO PAIN. I HAVE FIBROMYALGIA PAIN EVERY DAY SO I DON'T WELCOME ANY MORE PAIN IN MY LIFE. I'M TYPE 2 DIABETIC AND HAVE sleep APNEA. ALL THE WONDERFUL THINGS THAT COME ALONG WITH BEING OVERWEIGHT. I HAVE 92LBS TO LOSE AND AM LOOKING FORWARD TO LIVING A LONGER LIFE WITH THIS SURGERY.

DOES ANYONE KNOW ABOUT WHETHER I NEED TO BRING THE CPAP WITH ME ON THE DAY OF SURGERY? I DON'T WEAR IT ALL AND KNOW THAT'S WHY I'M NOT sleeping WELL AT NIGHT. I TRY TO USE AND AND AM WAKE ANYWAYS WITH IT. CAN'T GET USED TO IT.

THIS SITE HAS HELPED ME SO MUCH TO GAIN THE CONFIDENCE THAT I NEED TO GO THROUGH WITH THIS. I KNOW THAT THE ALTERNATIVE IS NOT A GOOD ONE.

If you already do not use it because it is bothersome, I think I would forgo taking it to the hospital with you. You're not going to be there very long anyway. I'd say a good majority of folks are done on an out-patient basis and not required to spend the night. It's just one more thing to lug around and if you want to be comfortable I'd say no. I have a CPAP I haven't gotten used to myself. I'd only had it a few weeks when I had surgery and I definitely didn't take it, and glad I didn't. You want to be as unencumbered and comfortable as possible. That's just my two cents.

I am still going through my whole CPAP adventure. I was told that I absolutely have to take the CPAP with me. They make sure that you are hooked up to it during and after surgery before you wake up. It makes you come out of surgery easier because you are forced to breath. It also makes recovery easier for the same reason.I would definately take it. Actually my surgeon won't do the surgery without it since he knows I have sleep apnea. He said that years ago he had done a perfect surgery. The next day the man passed on. He had lied about having sleep apnea. That was reason enough for me to get tested in the first place.

Good Luck! I really hope you take it with you.

I would talk to your doctor about this and also mention when you go in and see the Ansth. as they have meds to help you out with this. WHen I had my surgery they said I should bring it with me as they have them but want to amek sure its the right one. How ever I left it at home and did not have a problem with it. One of the doctors the next day asked me if they brought it up and I told him know and said I doubt I would of had it on that long since I had gas pains and was up walking around.

Sorry to hear you have sleep apnea, have you tried www.cpaptalk.com CPAP and Sleep Apnea Discussion Forum for more information on the subject. It is a helpful website just like this one. Keep trying different mask

until you find one that you are comfortable with. I love my machine & mask. I use a nasal mask and it is so much more comfortable than a full face mask. Good luck with the surgery and check out the website.

I was just recently diagnosded with severe apnea and was told to bring just the mask and the calibration settings as the hospital I'm having the surgery at has 50 cpap machines.

I also have sleep apnea. My pulmonary doc wrote in my clearance that I had to have the CPAP machine in recovery room. Seems the anethesia lowers your breathing rate. I too was told by the bariatric team to bring mask & calibration settings the day of surgery.

As for masks, I am finally happy with the nasal canula style gear.

I will be banded monday 11/5.

Good luck to you

I was told to take mine to the hospital jsut in case. After surgery, I had a hard time keeping my oxygen saturations up. Probably a combination of sleep apnea and anesthesia. Anyway, I had to stay several extra hours as a result. Without the cpap my oxygen sat. would drop to the upper 70's. With just the cpap I would drop to the mid 80's. I ended up on the cpap with oxygen for several hours. i was definately glad that I took it. The cpap is a little annoying, but I feel sooo much better since I have it.

I'm having my surgery on Dec. 11th. My dr. told me to bring my Cpap machine just in case I had to stay overnight. I have had my machine for over 2 1/2 years and have never missed a night with it - it's so comforting!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
