gkhtoys 19 Posted January 24, 2018 I'm set to get my gastric sleeve surgery in March, 2018! I am soooooooo HANGRY! That's so hungry that you are angry about it! Yesterday was my 1st low carb/high Protein day and I consumed less than 30 carbs and ate less than 690 calories. I also worked out for 45 minutes...today I have had to increase my carb load because I cannot go from 120 carbs down to less than 30 without feeling like crap! Today I got 50.5 carbs but, I'm in a terrible mood!!! This is not like me! Help! Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated!
Creekimp13 5,840 Posted January 25, 2018 Eat a more balanced diet and avoid extremes? Have extreme diets ever worked in the past? Just sayin... Congrats on your surgery, by the way:) Wishing you the best.
WaywardMama 55 Posted January 25, 2018 If you don’t get enough calories your body will go into starvation mode. You got this. Mood swings will happen with this journey just try to take it one day at a time.
DaleAnn 16 Posted January 25, 2018 Can't believe it but you need more calories. I can remember that hunger. It was all consuming. I am one month post op and I still get hungry but nowhere near the all consuming feeling I used to have. What used to help was a Protein Shake when it got that bad. nikkiw218 26 Posted January 25, 2018 Ooh girl I feel you! I’m at the end of day 2 of my 2-week pre-op liquid diet and I am a moody beyotch! I am exhausted and seriously can’t think my way out of a paper bag right now. My family is being amazingly understanding, but I really hope this part passes quickly...for all our sakes! Off-topic, but it’s crazy to me how all of our diets are so different. I’ve got 2 weeks of full liquid meaning I can have Protein Shakes, skim milk or unsweetened almond milk, Tomato Soup or cream Soup, broth, unsweetened applesauce, Greek yogurt (blended/no chunks), sugar free pudding and sugar free Jello. That’s about it. Oh. And cottage cheese. I have to get 60g of Protein (or more) a day and stay under 1,000 calories. I won’t chew solid food for 7 weeks. Sigh. Oh well. It’ll be worth it...right? gkhtoys 19 Posted January 25, 2018 Nikkiw218, have you tried Premiere Protein's Protein Water yet? I think it's 90 calories but packs in 20g of protein! I bought my 12 pack case at Sam's for $19.96. I haven't started my 2 week liquid diet yet but, I'm ready...
Apple203 1,314 Posted January 25, 2018 (edited) You aren't in the last 2-week pre-op, just preparing for it, right? I am doing the same, but using my dietitian's recommendations: 1200 kcal, 20/40/40 macros. So 60 g carbs, 120 g Protein. Here is how it pans out: Breakfast -- Protein Shake with 1 c mixed berries snack -- 2 celery stalks, 2 T Peanut Butter lunch -- 4-6 oz lean protein, salad w/ 2 T dressing Snack -- Oikos triple zero vanilla, fruit dinner -- 4-6 oz lean protein, 1-2 c vegetables Edited January 25, 2018 by Apple203

I do two of their shakes a day though (breakfast and dinner) and then an Oikos Triple Zero at lunch time and cottage cheese with dinner. I’ve been getting over 90g of protein. :-) I do wish our costco had more variety than chocolate or vanilla though for the Premier Protein! I want to try the caramel but don’t want to pay the extra to order it online! lol
priscessa 2 Posted January 25, 2018 Hi, I'm about to start my two-week pre-op diet next week. I think my diet plan is about the same except I can have some healthy choice meals as long as they are within 300-400 calories I think. What are you doing to help with food cravings and that hunger feeling at the 2:00 hours.
gkhtoys 19 Posted January 26, 2018 Thanks for all of the advice! Today has gone so much better than the 2 previous days (as far as the hunger/anger goes). I don't have a choice to overeat anymore if I want to make it to my 60's...I HAVE to do this to combat an early death sentence. This is my last hope since I did not succeed at Weight Watchers, another 6 months with a dietician and countless fad diets through the years. Tonight I called a family member and they have decided that this surgery is not in my "best interest." They are very important to me but, I have done plenty of research and this is the best solution for my diabetes, restricted lung disease, arthritis, sleep apnea, high blood pressure and the other medical problems that I currently have. Hopefully they will read up on real testimonies from people who have gone through the experience...rather than listening to horror stories on the web. They may not be on my immediate support team at my scheduled surgery. Life goes on! Today I found out that I have to have lithotripsy soon due to a big kidney stone is blocking my kidney from performing properly. This may throw a monkey wrench in my plans and schedule!
