Slow weight loss

Recommended Posts

I am exactly 4 weeks out from surgery today. I was sleeved on 12/27/17. In that four weeks I have only lost 11 lbs! Anyone else in this position? What am I doing wrong??

You're not doing anything wrong. You started out at a lower weight.

11lbs in one month...that's a lot.

I lost the same amount in my first month and we started around the same surgery weight. I've lost about 52 lbs since surgery and while others have lost more than me after 6 months, my body is different than others as is my journey and I would have never been able to lose 52 lbs on my own in 6 months if it weren't for the surgery.

Your weight loss will be slow and you will hit plateaus but it's not a magic surgery that the weight will fall off every week...it doesn't work like that.

I've learned throughout this process to have more realistic expectations of how this weight loss journey will work for me and i'm very happy with my "slow loss".

Best of luck to you!

Hi. I had sleeve surgery on 12/28/2017 - just a day after you. Please don't worry. You're not alone. The first week post-op I lost 8 pounds, second week 0, third week +1 pound. I was so frustrated and concerned that I went through all of this and I wouldn't lose weight. I was following the food plan and walking. It didn't seem logical. Then, over the past week I lost 9 pounds. So, in total I've lost 17 pounds post-surgery. It's not too far from your total. I thought that I'd lose more weight too after surgery. My surgeon told me not to expect huge weekly losses, instead, to expect 2 lbs. of weight loss per week.

As the weeks and months pass by, our losses will add up. By 12/27/2018, your weight loss total will not be 11 pounds. It will be much more. Feel free to send a message to me if you want to compare notes throughout this year. :206_cat:

I was feeling the same too, disappointed that I did not lose any weight this past week. I'm three weeks post op. But in looking at where I started, I certainly could not have lost 15lbs on my own like that. I think that took me a year when I did it on my own last time. I think @sleevedshereen and @KatFight, you guys are right on, thanks so much for the advice. :778_heartbeat:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
