Pre-Opt Grief anyone? A lot of sadness and tears for the years.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just wanted to share how I’m feeling incredibly sad, tearing up almost every night before my VGS scheduled on 1/31.

I feel it’s the right choice yet there’s so much pain, sorrow and grief coming up to the surface.

That so much of my emotions have been suppressed and really swallowed in (quite literally) with my own emotional eating.

It’s almost this wake up call to face what’s there.

My heart hurts. I feel so sad to what I’ve reached yet I am not shaming my body or self for all that it has been through.

I just wanted to share and see if this resonates with anyone else..

Definitely! I had a few cries pre-op. Funny thing, I haven't felt that at all since surgery on Jan 8. I feel so good and am so excited that I don't have space in my head for that now. So yes.. Most likely it will pass! Good luck to you and stay strong. Keep us updated! [emoji76]

I cried many times before surgery & after too. It's okay. You're not alone.

You're totally normal, even if you've come to terms with your upcoming surgery your inner heart is a little scared for the unknown. I put on a big brave front for my own upcoming surgery in about 6 weeks but deep inside this cowgirl gets the blues. We are, making a big change in our lives, but we are going to be So Much Better Off and much healthier. We can do this, my friend.

Thank you so much. I am so glad how it’s something you’ve resolved as well in your process.

It’s often we feel alone in such things, isn’t it? Thank you for sharing. It really means a lot to me.

I tested up reading your post. You’re right. So many people around me see me as this really strong woman but my little heart is indeed scared!

We will be so much better and healthier. Yes, we can do this.

Thank you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
