Another August band-baby here

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

I just found out about this site and signed up (I've been spending my time on obesityhelp.com). What a cool thing to find a group JUST for August band babies!

Here's a little bit about me:

I'm 41 (as of Oct 21st), and was banded August 22nd, 2007. So far, including my preop fast, I've lost 40 lbs (on the nose, as of today). My all time high was 286, so I'm happily cruising my way down through the 240's with an end goal of around 100-120 lbs (160-180).

I was a skinny kid (very active child of the northwoods), but the weight started coming on in high school (just a slight bit of tummy). It came on full force when I married. I've lost and regained many times (as we all can say), and finally topped out at 286 this year. I've watched my sister battle with superobesity and it's complications and realized that I don't want to be there when I reach that age, so it's time to start now!

So far, the journey's been far easier than I thought. No food problems, no nausea or PBing, no plateaus. Since I got the newest version of the band, I started with a small fill right at surgery time, and haven't had a need for a fill since.

For activity, I'm taking strolls at the dog park with my DP (dear pooch) Bungee the Labradoodle, and take belly dancing lessons each week. My goal for activity is to gradually increase the duration of both those activities and spend more time with dance practice.

It feels great feeling myself getting smaller and moving around more easily. I love no longer having to take prilosec every day. I'm sure I'm in the "pink cloud" and that I'll have challenges eventually, but I'm enjoying where I am for now, and hoping it will keep going! I'm also working with a therapist to resolve some self-defeating behaviors and reverse some attitudes, which may also help me stay on track (can only hope so!).

Anyway, looking forward to getting to know all of you. Keep up the good work!

Donna

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
