I am 17 years post op. I have lost 150 lbs, kept 100 off. My question is: does anyone have any issues digesting fresh leafy veggies? I cannot seem to digest fresh spinach, lettuce etc. Seems to go right through me very quickly.

You have done amazing!! 17 Years and still going STRONG!!! KUDOS. I had my RNY 4 and 1/2 years ago. I'm still amazed and in AWE at how I have kept it off. I'm also 5.4 and I lost down to 117#'s within 6 months. But I was very sick with Strictures. I now weigh between 125-130. I also live in Oregon. Where do you live? I live in Roseburg, Oregon. Its nice to see fellow Oregonian's

I had a hard time with lettuce for a long time. Now it doesn't make me sick to my tummy

Hi there! I live in Hillsboro. I was very sick after surgery as well. Mostly due to collapsed lungs. Was in Respiratory ICU for a week. I don't regret my surgery though, although I know my pouch has expanded since I can eat quite a bit. I am at 200lbs right now and just joined the gym - I really want to drop another 50lbs. Send me a friend request on Facebook and I would be happy to become FB friends! It's Cindy Kyser. Hope to hear from you soon!

Hi Cindy,

Leafy greens will do that to you regardless of if you’ve had WLS (I’m 5 days post op myself). If this is abnormal for you and you still have a gallbladder that could be part of the trouble. Otherwise, there seems to be a near constant recall on leafy greens so maybe you just got a bad batch. Good luck!

I'm 2 weeks post op and have been given the green light for puréed foods. How much should I have? So far I've only allowed myself 1oz as I don't want to overdo it. What's everyone else doing/done? X

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
