How many calories do you consume?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I am about 8 weeks post op VSG. I feel great and I am losing weight. However,I went for an appointment at 6 weeks and asked how many calories I should be consuming and he said no counting calories and that my priority should be to eat 60 grams of Protein a day. I worry about limiting my calories and messing up my metabolism more than it is. Is anyone else out there not counting calories?

I'm only counting calories because they show up in MyFitnessPal anyway. The idea of "protein first" is that, if you're meeting your Protein goals for the day, you shouldn't have room in your stomach for anything else.

My surgeon said you never count calories at any stage post-surgery.

I have been counting calories, but for the same reason abefroman329 is. MyFitnessPal gives that information and I don't want to pay to unlock the other portions ;). I am 2 weeks post surgery and I've been eating between 500-600 calories a day. I'm only averaging about 40g of Protein a day. I'm hoping to get in more when I have more options.

1000-1200 calories per day since week 3 per my nutritionist's instructions.

I'm only suppossed to be counting Protein as well, but also count calories because it's easy enough and I'm curious. I get about 1,000 in a day at 5 weeks out.

Around 900 -1100 from about 2 weeks on. I have logged everything on MFP from day 1 to make sure i was on target for Protein.

I'm 5 months out. I too just look at Protein and try to keep my carbs under 40-45. MyFitnessPal tracks my calories like everyone else though so I know I'm usually at 900-1100 per day.

I’m 3 months out and between 350-600 a day. I find it hard to get in more unless I eat junk food (which I don’t want to) eg this morning I had Spanish tortilla omlette which was 150cal. Took me 30mins to eat it and I’ve been so full ever since and that was 5hrs ago. My nut wants me to try increase to 800/day within the month, don’t know how I’ll do that!!

I’m a month out and also struggling to get more than 600-700 calories a day. My nutritionist is only concerned about Protein, but I am TIRED all the time. I have a relatively active job and I feel like 600 calories isn’t enough to go on. Hoping it gets easier [emoji53]

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
