Krista27 341 Posted January 22, 2018 How may have you had to get this while in the hospital. I've heard of some people who have to do it to themselves when they go home even. Any experience here?Sent from my SM-J727T1 using BariatricPal mobile app
LJ 6 Posted January 22, 2018 I had surgery Wednesday and received a shot of heparin just prior to surgery and lovenox twice a day during my hospital stay. I did not have to go home on any anticoagulants though.
Wendyfm 494 Posted January 22, 2018 I had to have lovenox in the hospital and then had to give myself lovenox injections twice a day for ten days, I think. It could have been five day, surgery was three years ago.
Creekimp13 5,840 Posted January 22, 2018 I had lovenox in the hospital, but not at home. I had the most spectacular bruises from it...looked like I'd not only been in a knife fight (seven little laparoscopy incisions), but got slugged a few times, too. LOL:)
Frikinanni 17 Posted January 22, 2018 I had to do the shots for 2 weeks myself when I was discharged. It wasn’t all that bad, but I did get some pretty nasty bruises. 1 pharlow reacted to this
MsTipps 314 Posted January 22, 2018 Hey - I had them in hospital and to give myself a shot in the evening for a week when I got home.... Not fun but not complicated or painful. I too got a few little bruises - nothing major. Don't worry x

KatFight 207 Posted January 22, 2018 Hi. I had sleeve surgery on 12/28/17. My BMI was in the 50s so I have to take Lovenox. I was in the hospital for 22 hours so I had 1 shot there. I was prescribed 1 shot daily for 30 days. I was nervous about giving them to myself so my husband was giving them to me until one day when we forgot to do it at the scheduled time. I remembered a little while later and had to inject myself. It wasn't so bad. Since then, I've injected myself a handful of times. You'll be okay. 1 Animal85 reacted to this
Little Green 583 Posted January 23, 2018 I have experience giving Lovenox shots to my husband after he was injured in a car accident. He will just crow with glee if I have to give them to myself at home I know for sure I'll have them in the hospital. Hopefully won't have to take them home with me! kakatlady612 1,053 Posted January 23, 2018 I think my surgeon requires lovenox injections also so. i'm following the thread. I've given others shots before but never given them to be myself.Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app
KJ's losing it 11 Posted January 23, 2018 I had lovenoxin the hospital and then I had to give myself a shot at home for 3 days after surgery. It’s not bad. I was taught in the hospital how to give it and the needle is SUPER tiny. Doesn’t hurt at all 1 MsTipps reacted to this
mamamc32 132 Posted January 25, 2018 I take blood thinner normally for an artificial heart valve, so I had to do Lovenox shots for two weeks before surgery and a week or two afterwards. They are no big deal. You pinch the fatty part of your stomach, clean it with alcohol wipes, and do the shot. It doesn't hurt too bad unless you don't grab a fatty part . . . then it hurts like a #$%^&! You might bruise a bit, but even that's not a big deal.
kakatlady612 1,053 Posted January 26, 2018 I should not have too much trouble finding a spot for a shot- my whole belly is fat-thought that was one of the reasons I was, having bariatric surgery. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app LOL! I thought the same thing . . . but then I accidentally grabbed a part that wasn't fatty enough one day. Holy cow . . . that really hurt!! Just make sure you grab the fatty, lower part of your tummy.
