Drinking water without issue

Recommended Posts

Hi! I’m now 5 Days post op, and I am no longer having discomfort when drinking fluids. I can easily drink 14oz in 30 minutes — is this something I should be concerned about? Everyone told me it would be so hard to drink, but honestly true fluids really aren’t bothering me. My Protein Shake sits a bit heavier in my stomach and I do feel restriction when drinking that, pain even if I take too large of a drink but plain Water or broth that doesn’t happen! I’m so worried I have ruined my new tummy or something since I can drink so easily

Not everyone will have trouble drinking. I didn't. Surgeon still recommended I don't drink fast because it trains your new stomach to empty too quickly. Go at the recommended pace and you'll do great

You probably just aren't too swollen so it goes right through. Once healed up you can drink like that if you take frequent small sips. The restriction really comes into play with soft foods and solids, even puréed will slide right through. Count yourself lucky to be healing so quickly!

I had surgery on the 18th & I’m finding it easy to drink Water to. I had already drank 2 L today and it was just past noon.

I feel like every week I can get down one more "gulp" at a time. Currently I'm up to 5.

At what point do you feel restricted? I have yet to feel restricted when drinking Water. It’s been very smooth so far.

7 sips on an empty stomach, almost immediately on a full one.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
