3 day post op second guessing my decision

Recommended Posts

I felt the same way, second guessing my decision. I had a prescription pain med to help me. Take it one day at a time. It’s been a bit over a month and I’m just getting used to eating tiny meals. I would actually love a chicken Caesar salad! Not yet.

I’ve had tuna/egg salad. Salmon, chicken (gotta chew it until it’s mush). Scrambled eggs are great, I just had some tortellini. I forgot at the beginning that I could only eat 2oz. Made that mistake of eating too much. I’m running out of ideas of what I like to eat. I’ve been making fruit smoothies, they fill me up. Have a little mashed potatoes, why not.

I’m eating 2oz meals up to 5 times a day until my two week post-op. I’m also downing my Water quite well. Here’s pics of my Breakfast, my snack, & the list given to me by my doctor before I left the hospital. I’m having no problems with the exception of slight pain when moving to much. My surgery was January 18th.

when I was still in the hospital, one off the things they gave me to eat was Protein mashed potatoes with Protein Powder mixed in and non fat gravy. I relied on that for a few weeks as a go-to when I was tired and nauseous. It was quite comforting. I just made instant potatoes with Fairlife milk and a bit of protein powder, and used powdered gravy mix.

What you're feeling is probably gas pain. I had such a horrible time in the hospital when I try to lay back down I couldn't because it hurts so much more. So I got up and started walking and walking and walking. For the first few days it was so hard to get Water down.. I would talk to your doctor and see if you can take something to help you sleep... and possibly something to calm your stomach....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
