marina322 0 Posted January 19, 2018 Hi everyone, I am scheduled for my gastric sleeve surgery Feb. 16th and am very excited! I am also prescribed methadone and have found out recently (not from my surgeon) that methadone might not be absorbed into the body as much as before the surgery? Has anyone ever heard of this? Has anyone been on methadone maintence and had no problems/ any problems at all? I am very nervous that I will have to increase my dose of methadone because of it being malabsorbed . has anyone experienced this? Thanks.
GreenTealael 25,430 Posted January 19, 2018 Please consult the surgical group. Usually this is something they address with a pharmaceutical clinician (correct me if I'm wrong) to hammer out all of these details before surgery so you know exactly what to expect. 1 FluffyChix reacted to this
klk1959 7 Posted January 19, 2018 I work in drug and alcohol treatment but that being said, the person to ask is your surgeon. One thing I have seen done with pregnant women on higher doses because of the fetus, is split dosing. Split dosing might improve what is absorbed because you're taking a smaller amount. Also, have you considered converting over to Suboxone? Since it's a film, it might resolve the problem your concerned about. 1 FluffyChix reacted to this

geraldine1206 33 Posted January 19, 2018 I’ve been on MMT for 12 years. I had the sleeve 14 months ago and I only noticed that it hits me sooner after my dose. As in I can tell I’ve taken my medicine. But I feel the same if anything I would lower it now because I feel it slightly more. Good luck to you.
