What was your most difficult hurdle to overcome once you had surgery?

FOR THE BEST!!!!

I don't think it was one major thing :

Time management of getting all the fluids and Protein sources in. What I didn't realize is that it would become more possible over time. I still struggle sometimes but I track and use alarms.

Not to sound high and mighty (because I'm not) but Im so grateful I don't have food issues like cravings, I can't imagine how rough that would be.

If it's off plan (within reason ) I don't even come close. I even went as far as to sneak protein chips into the movie theater (shhhhh don't tell)

If I'm hungry while out and can't find anything plan approved I buy a Protein Shake, a juicebar smoothie that will have protein, unsweetened drink or coffee and work on hydration until I get home.

But I really need to work on eating dense Proteins, I'm choosing easier ones (like egg and cheese ) because they are ... easy

but according to my NUT that doesn't help my system go back to normal

Realizing my journey will never be like the rapid weight loss stories I hear about. So far absolutely no complications. But I stall often and lose slowly. I started at 249 and now im at 209 at 2 months post op. Slow but I hope steady. I could live with that.

I hope that helps

@tealael that is amazing! Keep up the good work. Now since I just had my surgery I am finding that the fluids are hard to intake and now I'm in so much pain all I do is sleep and walk around the house and I get upset because I want to do more! But I will slowly get there!

I am 11 days out and starting phase 3 this weekend. On my 1st pre-op visit (8 days after surgery), the doc gave me the okay to start incorporating soft foods, but I decided to ease my way into that phase. Started out with eating a couple 1" noodles (chicken noodle Soup - no chicken), then yesterday I added zucchini strips to my soup. So far so good. I am down 16 lbs since surgery day weight.

That is so good! Keep up the good work. I can't eat Pasta or bread on stage 3 so hopefully this is gonna stick and I can stay off of the pasta and bread items. I really can't eat the veggies and fruits now. Fruits only if they have no seeds or skins and veggies if it's those steam bag veggies. I can't keep anything down. Well since I started stage 3 I only added eggs and I can't keep it down. So idk what is going on. This whole 30 min wait to eat or drink is driving me CRAZY! But it's just been 3 days. We can keep this up!

I have read alot about the fluids being hard to intake. Is it because you're still hungry? Is the pain that bad? It looks as though its laparoscopic surgery.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
