Exercise and port pain

Recommended Posts

Hi you lovely helpful people,

Yet another question from the dim, but enthusiastic, newbie I am afraid!

Yesterday I decided that I had better start doing some exercise to help this band along whilst I am awaiting that elusive full feeling ( I swear I could swallow a fillet steak WHOLE at the moment)

I decided I would ease myself in and did 30 mins of floor exercises and then did 1/2 hour on the power plate, felt fine straight after ( and quite full of myself!) but BOY did I get payback about 3 hours later!

My port site swelled up like a brick under the skin ( NICE and v.v. atractive - the kids invited me to their halloween patry cos I looked like something from Alien, thanks kids for your support) and was really really tender.

Did i do too much ? Is this normal?

The thing is I have an appointment to have a full Tummy Tuck done in Feb and I HAVE to get 20kgs off by then and until I reach the ' sweet spot' its all down to me!

:help::help::help:

Thanks in advance

NIna xx

The same happened to me. I worked in the yard for about 2 hours, then I was in so much pain I could barely move. I called the doc's office and the nurse said I did too much. I was fine the next day.

I cant believe you are trying to do any ab work less than 10 days out from surgery honestly. Take it easy on those and give your port area time to heal first. Did your doctor give you any instructions about this?

I didnt realise that I shouldnt *blush* I even rang the doc and was put through to their 'fitness expert' who said that a week PO I would be fine to use my power-plate as long as I didnt rest the port on it!!!

Grrr I seem to get such different advice here in the uk to the advice US patients do, oh well , any ideas when it will be ok?

Thanks again!

My doctor also told me that I can't do any of my gym program for a month and to do walking until then. I am two weeks post op and even though I feel fantastic I am staying away from the gym for another few weeks.

30 days......... oh plop that throws a spanner into the works a bit, I'll just have to go for long walks on the beach with the doggies then.

Thanks so much guys, lord knows what I would have done to my innards if I wasnt on LBT!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
