PreOp liquid Diet

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, today is my first day on this app. My surgery is Wednesday the 24th. I am so nervous about feeling pain, also this 14 day diet is such a busttt, i don’t try hard enough, i am so weak to food it’s really sad. I was going so well, but i cooked for my family and i had to taste the food and have the texture of the food in my mouth. I feel so disgusted with myself. So i have to start all over again.... any suggestions for this 2 week(well 7 days left now) to go smooth?

Keep in mind that docs have been known to cancel surgery if the liver hasn't reduced on the pre-op diet. Doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

It's important to not cheat. If you do cheat, cheat with Protein only. (Don't cheat!) The point of the diet is to restrict carbs to shrink your liver.

If cooking triggers you...don't cook:)

Best wishes on a safe effective procedure! Keep us posted:)

Creekimp13 is exactly right. I have to do a 4 week post op fast and am not at all looking forward to it. However, I intend to do it an stick to the plan exactly. It will make my surgery much safer.

My surgeon already told me that she will indeed cancel surgery if pre op diet is not followed. I am required to lose 8% of my excess weight the month before surgery. Plus, I have weekly support meetings at my surgeons office during the 4 week Optifast diet.

I am also the cook in my house but, I have a plan. I am going to cook meals ahead of time and freeze them. I have a foodsaver vacuum sealer that I intend to store and freeze them in. I will prepare enough to get my husband through my pre op diet and at least 1 week post op.

Very important that you stick to your surgeons diet plan. Hang in there and good luck!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
