can my surgery be cancel/rechedule if I don't loose 15lb???

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have everything set up - date on NOV 1st pre op, even insurance approval, days off, transport etc etc...

I am so concern about the weight loose before surgery. My doc said 15pounds and I had only 3 weeks to deal with it.

Whats gonna happened if I wont be able loose all of it? did they cancel or reschedule my appointment? did anybody had a problem with that?

Please give me some clue how it work?!

You need to call your doctor and ask him these things. They are all different. I did not even have to do a pre-op diet, but then i went to Mexico. Good luck, Donna

I also had surgery in Mexico and I was supposed to lose 5% which was about 10 pounds and did it the last two weeks with Protein Powder drinks during the day (Or slim fast) and salad at night. I about chew off my desk chair the first day but was OK after that. I managed to lose almost 10 pounds which was OK. I'm glad i did- otherwise I may have had a week of "Last suppers" and gained 5 lbs. But do call and ask. You are not the only one with this situation, trust me.

I'm wondering the same thing. I'm scheduled for Nov 19 and I have till the 14th to lose 9 more. I was doing good but my success is trailing off. Good luck to you. Keep trying. I hope you make it and if you don't lose the whole 15 I hope they still do the surgery.

My surgeon required a 10% weight loss and if you did not loose or gained weight back they rescheduled you. They were very clear about this. I only had to loose 10lbs because of my hernia, but when I went to the hospital pre-op in all the papers they gave it said do NOT gain weight...we asked the nurse and she said if you go in on surgery day weighing more than they cancel..they are very concerned about your liver and it not shrinking. I went to a center of expertise so they may be more strict. I only had to do one of Clear Liquids before the surgery and I did south beach before that. HTH..Good luck

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
