That’s an awesome result! Were you required by your insurance or surgeon to lose weight before the surgery or were you dieting on your own?

We had to do the 6 months of weight loss with a nutritionist. Lost 80 lbs during that time period.

Well, I’ve scheduled a consult for myself for March 8th. I imagine I’ll be at least a month or so behind my husband depending on my requirements. We have different insurance plans so we will see how it all plays out. We are using the same bariatric practice but as of now, we’ve been assigned different surgeons. Ideally, I would like our WLS to be only a week or so apart but I’ll have to see what they say at the practice.

Congrats to you both as you begin this journey. I am recovering from the sleeve (2/7/18). If you have extra help at home to help with the daily routine then go for it. You will need some help within the first 2 weeks because of lifting restrictions driving limitations for the first 5-7 days etc- Best of luck on your journey as a couple!

My wife and I had surgeries together last spring. We shared a hospital room. It would have been 10x more difficult doing this alone.

@TJS

that is so cool, having WLS the same day - hope you both had a good surgery and recovery

did you both have the sleeve?? 9 months and you are doing great. How about DW?? is it

hard NOT to compare yourself with each other?? Men lose faster than women (not fair:angry:)

DH & DW - keep up the amazing job - while your weight goes down!!

92 lbs gone!! (don't look at me, i didn't take them:lol:

kathy

congrats

Well I had my consult today. It looks like my WLS will be about 4 months after my husband. At least I'll know what I'm in for!

My insurance requires a six month monitored diet. I don't have to lose weight but shouldn't gain any either. The surgeon said not to lose too much in that time or the insurance company could refuse to pay for my surgery.

I guess I just thought approval would be based on my initial weigh in and the less I weigh at the time of surgery the better.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
