So I'm 4 days post op. Came home yesterday. Just the drive from the hospital had me wrecked. Didn't sleep great last night, think my bed is too flat and my back is a bit sore from lying on it but apart from that I'm flying. Rang my doctor today cause experiencing some numbness and pins and needles in one leg. He thinks I might have bruised a nerve with the compression stockings and should be fine in a few days. I do find as well that I can't walk for more than a few mins without getting a bit dizzy and needing to sit. But if that's the worst I'm laughing. Fingers crossed!! Only thing I'm worried about is going stir crazy sitting round for two weeks doing nothing. First world problems!

I got stir crazy at the end too. I remember the first time going shopping for foods that I could have at the pureed stage. Completely kicked my ass being out and about with my wife but man it was good to get out and do something.

Hope you have a speedy recovery!

Glad to hear for the most part you are feeling good. As I go for surgery on March 5th and my biggest worry is going stir crazy. And I wanna get back to my normal life ASAP. Good luck to a speedy recovery and to your new journey.

I think doing exactly as the doctors and dieticians tell you is the key to a speedy recovery

Well, fingers crossed for you! I am nearly 5 weeks post op - the first three days were definitely the hardest so hopefully you are set, ready to watch those pounds slide off, your knees being less sore, nicer clothes fitting, and being complimented on how healthy you are looking!

All the best for a fab 2018

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
