Vsglife 10 Posted February 19, 2018 Jennifer I had my bypass on Valentine’s Day. I completely understand the left side under the rib pain and mine can be such a pain it takes my breathe away or literally makes me scream out. That pain seems to be less during the daytime and I really try to gauge my pain meds around it too. For me that pain is not gas or because I’ve eaten or drank too much. My doc said that’s very normal because most of our work is on the left side and it will get better. It is definitely frustrating trying to balance Protein and Water. I’m not using the time system they suggested every 30 minutes. I have found a tummy friendly tasty smoothie recipe though. I drink 1/2 a cup at a time but made the whole amount.1/2 cup of very low or sugar free Greek yoghurt flavored (no fruit in it etc)-I used vanilla1/2 cup skim or 1%milk-I used 1%1/2 medium size smashed banana 2 tbsp of PB2 powder 1 scoop of Protein Powder - I used chocolateI threw in some ice and blended till liquids and sipped 4 ounces as a serving it’s not too bad Also Hint flavored water in apple crisp 0 calories or sugar has really helped me out. If you are five days post op you probably should not be eating or drinking bananas and yogurt if you are sleeved.
missa13 1 Posted February 19, 2018 If you are five days post op you probably should not be eating or drinking bananas and yogurt if you are sleeved. I had bypass not the sleeve and my doctor cleared me for the smoothies. I’m also allowed to have mashed low fat small curd cottage cheese. I’m sure what each individual can have is based on each case or their recovery and tolerance.

Haven’t had pain or taken pain meds since day 3, having no problems with pills, liquids or lots of walking - going so much better than anticipated! Ready for some soft food in another week and a half though that’s for sure!!

JazmaniaRNY 80 Posted February 19, 2018 Hello all.... brief update had a very painful night and painful start to today. I am getting the dreaded muscle pains next to the belly button. Apparently, it is from the middle incision above my belly button because of the stitches in the muscle, they tend to pull when healing. Never thought healing would hurt- ouch! The pain is about 3-4inches to the right of my belly button. If I twist, bend, stretch, or whatever it spasms and feels like I am being stabbed or they are ripping through my flesh. It is so painful. Any of you experiencing this yet? shevek.annares 7 Posted February 19, 2018 Day 5 post op. Still feel bloated, and not great all around. I keep walking and sipping. I keep having a stabbing pain under my left rib. Not sure if it is gas? Or maybe I'm sipping too much at a time? It is really hard to get your Protein and Water in at this stage! Ugh. I feel like I was so focused on what I was going to be able to eat after surgery, and not focused enough on the reality of post op. I don't care about eating at all. Everything hurts. Not saying that to scare anyone. Just that maybe you will be more prepared than me. Everyday I do feel a smidge better. Get that protein in, however you can. Had my 2 week post op on Friday, and I have been getting in all of my water and protein, and have healed very well. Doc attributes it to getting in the fluids and protein which help with the healing process so much. The pain could be siping too quickly or drinking something too cold. I only drink room temp because I did notice a pain when drinking something too cold. The pain will get better. About Day 9 for me, I noticed a different, consistent pain in my ribs on my left side. It seems to be that's muscle pain, and it's normal, as the muscles that they went through for the surgery begin to heal. 1 oharak71 reacted to this

FluffyChix 17,415 Posted February 22, 2018 Hi dear ones! I had surgery on the 20th (RNY) and was released for home on the 21st. I feel absolutely fantastic. Very little gas and my tummy wasn't even distended too much. They said they expelled as much as they could after surgery. The surgeon said it was an easy operation and the my liver looked pink and lovely! Yay me! I'm walking and drinking and visiting with my sissy. The biggest problem is that i have to limit fluids today to only 4oz. I can drink somewhat normally. I do feel it filling up a little when I sip too fast, but I feel like and asked, "Did you really do the surgery?" LOL! I'm up 5lbs from fluids. On the day of surgery I weighed 222.4lbs. So I'm looking forward to the scale moving! Tomorrow I start full liquids--today I'm still on clears. But it's ok. I have absolutely no desire for food. And I have ambivalence for other people's food. Yay!!! Hope all the other Feb. 20th folks and the February folks in general are doing well!!! 2 Glamgirl and kimber57 reacted to this
