February bypass buddies?

Recommended Posts

Just got back from my final appointment with the surgeon. Received a date of February 13. They will submit my information to my insurance company, but I have no reason to think I won't be approved.

Looking for any buddies February and/or surgery day twins.

I would love to be your buddy. I am scheduled for bypass Feb 21st. I am 5' 6" and at 312 now. Have an appointment this Friday to see nutritionist. According to their notebook I will be on Protein Shakes for 4 weeks pre-op. I already have approval from my insurance but my surgeon is really booked out hence the Feb 21 date.

I'm also 5'6"... Weight at my final was 265. My heaviest on my home scale was 279.

My surgeon requires a 3 week starch free diet, then 2 days Clear Liquids prior to surgery.

That's great you already have approval! And Feb 21 really isn't that far out!

I go for my pre-op physical and bloodwork next week (1/23).

I'm scheduled for February 8th, we had to go through a 12 week program where we worked on our diet, Right now I'm checking in at 20# loss, it will be about 20 weeks from first appointment to surgery date. Wasn't nervous at all until this week I started having little spikes of being nervous. Good luck to you guys!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
