Constipation advice?

Recommended Posts

In 2014 I had an anal fissure repaired surgically that had been around for close to a year, and I’ve been taking a high dose of Fiber (12 psyllium husk tablets a day) to ensure that everything keeps moving and I don’t get another one. I stopped the day before the surgery and have been struggling with Constipation pretty much since starting the puréed diet. I’d been stopped up for a few days and probably had a blockage, which passed yesterday, though not without quite a bit of straining (it was diarrhea fiirsr and then the blockage needed to go, which is why I was straining). Anyone have any recommendations? Senkot hasn’t done anything, though I haven’t tried the max dose, and I was taking Miralax when I had the fissure and built up a resistance to it pretty quickly.

Thanks!

One thing you can do is, take dried prunes and just cover them with Water and then steep them until they are soft. Drink some warm juice then eat a few of the prunes. Be close to the bathroom because it feels like it is just gas but don't trust it. My hubby has had them a couple times. The one was the size of a baseball. OUCH!! They told him if he had surgery it could make his spincter unable to control his bowels. Then my daughter went thru it a couple years ago. Bad News. I'm sorry that you have to go thru this.

Teaspoon coconut oil in warm tea. Smooth Move tea. Magnesium supplement at night. Suppositories.

Try the miralax again, your body has now changed and the miralax might help again. Also, call your doctor for recommendations.

Main ingredients in sennokot is senna. You can buy its natural tea form and drink semi regularly. Helps alot takes about 8-10 hours but it's a natural process. On a side note I have very little tolerance these days for sugar substitutes including Stevia. When ever I feel like I need a digestive cleaning I use them and viola!

Milk of magnesia! Can't repeat this enough. I was never constipated before surgery and this is what helped me through it.

Thanks, all. I took the maximum dose of Senokot last night and things were back to normal this morning.

You might want a softener like Colace too. It's definitely an uncomfortable problem and will continue for a while.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
