Xerox 14 Posted January 14, 2018 I got sleeved on the 7th rather than the 6th. I was sleeved at a BMI of 30.6, I think I had previously said I was 31.6 but I was mistaken. I was told to stick mostly to Water for my first week, so I have had 2 portions of home made chicken bone and vegetable broth each day and water throughout the week. The last few days my stomach has started to growl and churn, but otherwise its been pretty effortless, if not a chore to remember to drink my fluids and broth. I am feeling pretty weak tbh, My dog has bad back legs and I have to carry her around a lot and this has become a challenge. I get exhausted doing things I used to do effortlessly. Last night I made two Soups for the first week of full liquid stage, Ive tried to cram as much nutrition in to them as possible. Both are made from home made chicken bone and vegetable stock and grilled chicken thighs, one is carrot and squash and the other is mushroom. They have been frozen in to individual containers. I am lazy when it comes to cooking, so its easier for me to make a weeks supply in one evening than to cook every day. This morning I started my transition to full liquids with a Protein Shake (powder + water) I am not particularly looking forward to starting full liquids because I dont know what to expect and I dont feel a drive to eat anything right now. I also have some greek yogurt, but keep forgetting to eat it. I dont have a feeling of fullness at all, If I drink too much I can get a pain, but otherwise im just measuring out my broth portions and hoping its enough. So that is pretty much how the first week has been for me, Hopefully I am on the right track. 2 Apple203 and orionburn reacted to this
Sosewsue61 3,185 Posted January 14, 2018 You will not feel restriction until you eat semi/semi-solid foods. I seriously do not understand the NO Protein Drinks the first week. You could have had clear Protein drinks after 2 days of tolerating broth and tea, but anyway be aware of Constipation issues with protein drinks and no Fiber. Your intestines take awhile after anesthetic to be active and to get moving well, you may need stool softeners or Miralax. Continue to increase fluids in between the protein drinks. Good luck. 1 orionburn reacted to this
Xerox 14 Posted January 14, 2018 I have some fiber powder I could add?
Sydney7 6 Posted January 14, 2018 You may also be getting dehydrated which can happen. Water is heavy and harder to go down without pain. You could try liquid yogurt, crystal light, iced tea, anything but plain water would be easier to get down. Don’t forget there is also sugar free Jello and pudding which is easier to get down. Also you might not feel hungry for a long time, but it is still important to stay hydrated and fuel your body. Good luck!
genericwlshandle 5 Posted January 14, 2018 1 hour ago, Xerox said: I have some Fiber powder I could add? Ask your Surgeon/NUT first. Fiber supplements have the potential to cause blockage. 1 orionburn reacted to this
Apple203 1,314 Posted January 14, 2018 @Sosewsue61 My surgeon also requires 1 week of Clear Liquids, so it must be at least somewhat common?
carolinagirl14 1 Posted January 14, 2018 My surgeon suggested Milk of Magnesia for any Constipation issues. He said that was most gentle on the abdomen.
Sydney7 6 Posted January 14, 2018 Why worry about any of this if you don’t have Constipation? And if you do get constipation Miralax is what doctors now suggest.
Xerox 14 Posted January 15, 2018 Dont think we have this brand in the UK.
Sydney7 6 Posted January 15, 2018 It’s generic name is polyethylene glycol, you should be able to find that. It has been available in the U.S. for more than 15 years and you should be able to find it there, if not you could order it from Amazon. You can put it in Water or juice to drink. But remeber, many people don’t have Constipation, and you don’t want to take it unless you do. If you are worried just because you are taking the Protein drinks, just remember to drink as much Soup, crystal light, tea or water, or Jello, as you can. A kids soppy cup also helps so you don’t take air when you drink. Good luck
Xerox 14 Posted January 15, 2018 Thanks for the info. I am trying to get everything I need from what I consume including fiber through lentils liquified in to my Soups, so I havent had any issues yet.
orionburn 1,024 Posted January 15, 2018 Congrats on getting to the other side of the fence! We all react differently to surgery. It took me several weeks to not feel exahusted all the time. I remember being so bored at home after 2 weeks and tried to do anything could around the house. Running the vaccum for a few minutes was tiring, but it also felt good to actually do something. As you transistion to more foods you're mood/energy levels will go up. With liquids you typically won't ever feel restriction unless you drink too much too fast. Water passes through the stomach rather quickly when there's no food in it. Don't be surprised if you don't feel a full sensation with yogurts either. Anything that is a liquid at room temperature is pretty much a liquid in your stomach. When you get to real foods you'll start to feel it. 1 Xerox reacted to this
