2 weeks post op and am eating soft foods

Recommended Posts

I am 16 days post op for gastric sleeve and I have started eating soft foods- pickles, pears, tilapia, etc. my doctor said I’m okay to eat soft foods and work my way up from there slowly. I haven’t had any trouble whatsoever. But I’m worried this is going to slow my weigh loss.

I’m down 27 pounds and am just worried that if I stop the liquid diet I won’t lose weight as much. I feel like if I keep eating soft food I’m going to start gaining weight or I’m going to stop losing weight. That might be a mental thing but I’m just worried. I will cry if I stop losing weight! Lol

Is there anyone else out there eating soft food at two weeks?!

My dr. Required 2 week liquid diet post-op, followed by 4 weeks of puréed foods, and then at 6 weeks I can start to introduce regular food again . I was sleeved on 12/27, so I just started the puréed phase. I’ve had some of the same feelings, even in this stage. But it’s all in our heads. At least for me I know it is. It’s natural, but that’s the part we really have to work on. The surgery is just a tool; if we don’t take time in this first year to address all the other issues besides our stomachs that led us to obesity, eventually we will be right back where we started. I’ve started a journal. It helps me when I’m in my head to much to get it out and surprisingly, it helps me come up with some of my own solutions. You will be fine and you will lose weight. Good luck to you!

The weight loss has slowed for me, but not stopped. I just added ground beef, turkey, and chicken to my diet and that is keeping me full, which is good. It’s possible that consuming a couple hundred more calories per day will speed up the weight loss.

I was told Protein first then veggies. If you can, skip carbs. I will be 2 weeks post op next week and am looking forward to one soft protein meal a day for 2 weeks. High protein i.e. eggs, soft cheese, turkey, chicken, tuna fish and so on

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
