Stomach virus two weeks out from Gastric Sleeve surgery

Recommended Posts

I had my follow up appointment with my surgeon today, and thought I might be reacting to some foods, since I have had issues with my stomach for the past few days. He told me that the kinds of symptoms I was having aren't typically related to the surgery (tight cramping and needing to run to the restroom a lot), and that I need to let it run it's course. He said to be extra careful about dehydration, though and really work on the fluids. I thought I would mention it here since it is flu season, and we need to be extra vigilant after going through the surgery. This sucks.

Other than finding that out (and realizing how bizarre it was to not even know I had a stomach bug), the appointment went well, and he was happy with my healing and progress so far. I was 15 lbs. down as of the surgery. Hoping that number is real, and not an effect of the virus .

I ended up getting the flu about two weeks post op as well and I’m down 60 pounds because I ended up throwing up everything in my stomach. And I was hospitalized for 5 days due to dehydration. I’m still recovering from it.

Stay healthy it's no fun to get sick right after. There was a good post on here a while back about norovirus 2 weeks out. Luckily there shouldn't be long term effects, just have to stay hydrated and get through it.

No one tries to get sick. I ended up getting sick from the hospital.

I'm so sorry that happened. It is just the worst timing. I was up a lot last night, and still feel pretty bad today. I hope you are on the mend.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
