camopink27 18 Posted January 9, 2018 Everything is going fine, I do have ALOT of gas pains, but am walking and moving a lot. Didn’t get fluids in yesterday (day of surgery) but today I am but after I sip I get a pain right below the middle of my breasts. It’s like a cramping feeling, is this gas pain? 2 Aworknprogress and FluffyChix reacted to this

I think that’s gas pain. I’ve been having that too since my surgery. I can say that it doesn’t happen with every sip and I keep reminding myself to sip smaller and slower. 2 camopink27 and FluffyChix reacted to this
tonicaz 1 Posted January 9, 2018 I had the exact same thing for the first day after surgery. remember...everything is inflamed, and likely the diameter of a straw...tiny tiny sips.... 1 camopink27 reacted to this
camopink27 18 Posted January 9, 2018 Thanks y’all. I’m trying to do the tiny sips but I’m also trying to make sure I get all my fluids in. My doctor says sip one shot glass every 15 min to equal 4oz in an hour. Yesterday I got a measly 3 oz in because I was so groggy and nauseous.

Yeah that pain still happens to me when I take too big of a spoon of yogurt or pudding. It gets better!!
tonicaz 1 Posted January 9, 2018 It definitely gets better. The first week, I kept a shot glass near me at all times, and filled it continually....Worked at getting as much as I could, but its difficult in the very beginnin. @carlyrose, I purchased a set of small silverware to stop myself from taking too big a spoon...That HURTS!! Losebig 508 Posted January 9, 2018 That pain is probably too much too fast (stuff getting stuck). if you had a hernia repair it'll be even worse because there are two very swollen areas to get any liquid through. Take it easy and know you won't hit your fluid goals until maybe a week out. Warm fluids can help and of course walking. Hang in there and keep any pain under control so you can heal. Gas pain will often be in the shoulders and chest area and is worse if there was a hernia repair as well. It lasts a while unfortunately.
NewBeginnings2018 81 Posted January 10, 2018 I have been getting similar pains and they take my breath away. Sometimes feels like a little spasm that travels up to my shoulder. My guess is gas too.
Losebig 508 Posted January 11, 2018 If you had a hernia repaired it's very common for pain from that to refer to the shoulder (that was by far my worst pain, super sharp). Gas pain also settles in the shoulders too, though I couldn't tell which was which. Keep up on the pain meds and if you have lots of painful spasms let the DR know (I did and ended up rehospitalized). There are some meds that can help with constant spasms / dry heaves
