My husband lost his job and our insurance. Im on month 4 of my 6 month "supervised" pre op stuff. I signed up for insurance with my employer. Did anyone else go through this? Did you have to start all over again?

if your doc accepts your new insurance, there should be no problem.

((hugs)) You know that sappy old saying: when one door closes another door opens? Well, its true, at least a lot of the time. Glad you were able to get health care coverage through your office, and that you have a job. Try not to let this derail your plans.

Ive contacted all my doctors and requested a call from the hospital insurance specialist and a call from the insurance company. Thank God I do this for a living! LMAO

Any chance you could buy an extension of hubby's insurance through COBRA? Might be expensive for a couple of months...but it could save your surgery.

Sorry to hear about your husband's work situation. I don't really understand the US medical insurance system but the thought of losing your job and insurance and the same time sounds very overwhelming.

Sending you best wishes.

Do the COBRA option. That’s what I have. It’s surprisingly simple to keep coverage and its just like your still working. Call them and get it set up! Dont loose out on the amazing journey!

We discussed that option, but we had BCBS of Michigan. They changed their policy to cover out of state medical to emergency only. We live in WI. Cobra would have been 900 per month. My insurance is 144 per month. After talking to my doctor, I think all should be well. Thanks everyone for yhe encouraging and positive words!! So glad I can vent here! Whew!

As I understand it, it's the "continual" part that is important. So you just can't skip a month on your checkups ((hugs))!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
