Had lap-band on October 12, 2007 at Legacy Good Sam Hospital in Portland, Oregon. My Doctor is Jay Jan. Everything went fine and I am up and about. Joined the support group at the Hospital but it is so very new that there are only a few members, and no action on the net. I need to be able to talk to other people who have had the surgery and discuss what is happening to me now.

Congratulations on being banded. I was banded on October 11, 2007 in Douglas, Georgia. I noticed you were from Portland and I wish I was there. I was born and raised there and all of my family are there.

I'm glad that you have a support group at your hospital. I live almost 2 hours from where I had my surgery, so this is the only place I can go to hear from others.

How are you handling the diet? Are you still on all liquids? I'm getting ready to transtition to the pureed diet. Really rather looking forward to it.

Good Luck and I hope things keep going well for you.

Thanks for the welcome. I live 200 miles south of Portland in Canyonville, Oregon. I can only visit my support group when I have my appt with the doctor on the 14th of Nov. I used to live in Foley, Alabama ( near Gulf Shores and Pensacola, Florida) but we had to leave when Ivan, Dennis, Katrina, and Rita decided to mess up our lives. So, you used to live in Portland? How did you get to Georgia.?

additional to last message.......I am on pureed foods already. Scrambled eggs. MG, I can't believe how bad baby food is. I have tried the mixed vegetables and they are awful. Had to mix it with cream of chicken Soup.< /p>

Hi Brandy.....I had to go to Portland because of my age....70... Portland was the only place where they would take Medicare patients. That's how I got from Canyonville to Portland. Good luck to you tomorrow. It is worth it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
