My surgery is 1/18. Over the weekend I had to go to the ER and they found that I have a kidney infection. Do you think that will delay my surgery? I am on antibiotics now.

Ouch! Give your surgeon a call ASAP. My guess is that you'll be ok for surgery, but it's best to let your surgeon know ASAP in case they want to switch you up to a more powerful antibiotic or something. Crossing my fingers for you.

I am bumming big time. They cancelled my surgery. I know it's for the best. But I've been waiting for this day for so long.

Oh man...sorry Krista:( It's for the best, but I know it sucks. Hugs to you. Better to be safe, though. Will happen before you know it.

I just talked to them and they won't reschedule my surgery until I see a urologist and get cleared by them. So I'm going to see my regular dr tomorrow and getting a referral to urology. I was so close. But I know probably better than anyone that I need to be in good health before my surgery. I've had an episode after a surgery before that my body went into septic shock. So this is for the best just disappointing.

Aw man! Sucks!!!! But so much better to be on the safe side, especially since it's a UTI thing. There are so many awful bugs for this area right now--and with your history, that would just be tragedy to have to battle septicemia in addition to a typical post surgical situation!

Hopefully the infection responds to the medicine and you'll get into urology and in 10-15 days you'll have your clearance and new date!!! Saying prayers sweetie! In the meantime, hunker down here and play with me while I wait too...cuz you know, "misrah" loves company! ;)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
