Fever--Am I rejecting band?

Recommended Posts

I have been banded for just over two years. I have taken the good with the bad, but now I'm afraid I might have a real problem. I got a fill on 10/13/07 after having no fill in for about three months due to severe regurg, etc.

NOW, starting two days after the fill, I began to run a temp (low-grade, yes; but enough to make me feel really bad). My GP even did a meningitis test which was negative (Thank God!) but now I am on a crap-ton of antibiotics and am still running the temp. The only thing I can think of is the band.

Has anyone had anything similar? Do you have any suggestions? I know that there are docs on this site, and I beg you if you know what this could be, PLEASE let me know ASAP. Thanks Terri:confused:

To my knowledge there has never been a reported case of band rejection w/Inamed bands.

Do you have any redness or swelling around your port? Any pain? Anything at all to point to the band being the cause? How is your restriction? When you got the fill did you notice restriction? Is it still about the same? Or have you lost restriction completely?

I don't have any redness or swelling around the port, or anywhere else. I had some restriction right after the fill, but not much, if any, now. The reason I thought of the band was because, as far as I can recall, nothing else has changed. It is very frustrating. Thanks for the reply.

Have you been scoped to check for erosion?

You know, odds are you just have a bug of some sort. Sometimes people run a low grade temp for ages and nobody ever does figure out why. I'd keep bugging your doc to get to the bottom of it.

I think if your body was to reject the Band, it would have happened immediately after placement... not two years later. It's probably just a normal bug of some such. Get some extra sleep... drink some chicken soup... OJ... and hopefully you'll be better in a few days. ;)

Terri-

I've Also Had This Problem For The Past 6 Wks. I Had A Fill Then 2 Days Later Started Running A Low Grade Temp. I Had A Sever Sore Throat At The Time So I Got Put On Some Atb's And Thought That The Sore Throat Was What Was Causing Me The Temp But I Was Wrong. I Was Atb's For 14days And When They Were Done I Still Had A Low Grade Temp. I Also Have No Sign Of Infection Around My Port Site. I Think I Found That My Band Was To Tight Because For The Past 6 Wks I Have Thrown Up Daily And Could Barely Keep Liquids Down. So I Just Went To The Doctor Yesterday To Have Some Fluid Removed Before It Slipped And I Ended Up In The Hospital For Dehydration. I Think The Irratation Around My Stomach From The Band Being To Tight May Be What Was Causing The Temp. I'm Going To Cont. To Watch To See If I'm Still Running A Temp In A Few Days And Let You Know If I've Found The Cure. I Really Hope I Have Becuase If This Isn't What Was Causing Me A Fever Then I'm Not Sure What Is.

Amanda:

Thanks for the reply! I'm sorry to hear about your problems, but I have to admit that I am glad to know I am not losing my mind! LOL! Let me know how you do. I will look forward to hearing from you.

I finished most of my meds, and I also syill have a LGT. I don't think my band is too tight, it may just be that having a fill causes enough irritation to set off a white blood cell reaction. Thanks again. Terri

Hi Danielle!! I am sorry to hear that you are running a fever, however I am inclined to agree with your doctor. Dehydration can cause an increased temp. Are you making sure that you are drinking more than enough Water? I have found since I have had the lap-band, I need to drink more than 64oz of Water a day. I am not sure why but I feel like crap of I don't. Also, what do your temps normally run? Most doctors wont even consider it a temperature until it reaches atleast 102 degrees. I am a nurse and we get yelled at by docs if we call for anything less than this. Make sure you are taking in plenty of water, and make sure your doc knows you are running a low grade temp!!

Sorry!! Just saw you got the band Monday!! Monitor your incisions for redness, excess drainage, and increased warmth. These are the key signs of infection!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
