kakatlady612 1,053 Posted January 8, 2018 My gastroenteritis doctor just told me my EGD showed active gastritis, will this slow down or bar me from surgery? Gonna follow his consul cause I've come so close.Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app
KimTriesRNY 1,853 Posted January 8, 2018 I had a bit of gastritis. Still had my surgery. I’m more curious how many people don’t have gastritis..... I work in a hospital. Every patient I’ve ever had has gastritis it seems. They may put you on a PPI before surgery. I think you’ll be fine. Can’t see them cancelling for something so common. 1 tankheadmommy reacted to this
Creekimp13 5,840 Posted January 8, 2018 When researchers examine the removed portion of stomach from RNY and Sleeve patients...something obscene...like 60% show chronic gastritis. You do want to have the test to make sure you don't have the ulcer bacteria present. If you have that, it'll need to be treated before surgery. But if not, it shouldn't cause a delay. 1 tankheadmommy reacted to this
Creekimp13 5,840 Posted January 8, 2018 (edited) PS...I had an endoscopy and had chronic gastritis diagnosed, too. They took biopsies to check for the helicobacter pylori bacteria...and I didn't have any. No delay on surgery. (I did have sleeve, though, not RNY, full disclosure) Edited January 8, 2018 by Creekimp13 1 tankheadmommy reacted to this

I was found to have gastritis and h-pylori a few weeks prior to surgery. I had to take some pretty mean antibiotics to cure it. 12 pills per day. The antibiotics we're worse than the gastritis. They still went on with the rny.HW 330SW 292CW 185GW below 200 1 em1 reacted to this
Samsontryn 0 Posted November 17, 2022 This discussion doesn't look very encouraging, but I hope I'll be admitted to the operation without problems.
St77 87 Posted November 17, 2022 I've been on PPIs for years because of GERD, which had caused gastritis years ago. There was no signs of problems leading up to my RNY and I had my surgery this past year. I'd say not to get discouraged.
kateronhur 0 Posted November 18, 2022 (edited) I haven't met a person who had a positive experience with taking antibiotics. But I already have gastritis, so antibiotics can't make it worse. I'm philosophical about it: I'd rather endure it all now, and then I'll be happy about my improved well-being. Unfortunately, ordinary pills to improve digestion won't help with gastritis, otherwise, doctors would be out of work. My operation will take place on schedule, the surgeon saw no point in delaying.
