Bathroom issues

Recommended Posts

Sorry everyone this is real personal but I want to know if I’m the only one cause I’m really struggling and my doctor is booked out a few weeks. So I am about A month and 10 days after surgery I’ve lost about 35 lbs. but last Friday I had an issue I ate my lunch it was simply just some chicken nothing special but I’m sitting at work and it hits me I HAVE to go to the bathroom I’m rushing over there and out of no where I feel something running down my leg I went to the bathroom without even knowing. I thought maybe I was getting sick took it very easy this weekend on what I ate I had no problems at all. But here I am today ate my lunch I’ve been extremely paranoid so I had just a light broth nothing exciting and the same thing almost happened but my extrem paranoia has me running to the bathroom any time I feel any little thing in my stomach. Has anyone else had anything like this or any tips or tricks?

No...I've not had anything like that. I'm so sorry you do...has to be really unsettling!

Hopefully, it's a passing thing that will improve with time.

I would suggest:

1. Getting in to talk to your doc about it, or at least phoning the nurse about it ASAP.

2. Get some disposable diaper underpants...they have something like "Pull Ups" for adults now. I know it's a little frustrating and uncomfortable...but my mom sometimes wears them and unless you were looking close, you'd never know. Again...just until you get it figured out, so you don't have to panic:) Think of it as temporary insurance.

I have had this and so has my dad. What we found out is that we weren't getting enough Probiotics. He takes a pill and i make sure to eat my yogurt and both of us are doing better. Good luck!

Doesn't sound like fun. I'd also take a look at anything you're eating that could have a laxative effect. For example sugar alcohol is in a bunch of sugar free and bariatric stuff (especially Calcium supplements) and that can cause that. Hope you get it figured out, I think some kind of pad or diaper is a good idea until you get it figured out, that way it is just annoying VS a catastrophe if you're at work.

I haven’t had this exact issue, but when I have to go, I really have to go —immediately.

My NUT says she has several WLS clients with fecal incontinence. They control it by carefully logging their foods to identify trigger foods.

Also, Always (the maxi pad brand) makes incontinence underpants - basically very thin adult pull-ups. They are a bit pricier, but look and wear like regular underpants.

Stevia does this to me but I have thankfully not experienced it while out

I hope you figure it out soon!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
