Slice235 0 Posted January 7, 2018 My wife had a lap band operation about 8 years ago and successfully lost considerable weight but over time the band slipped and scar tissue formed. She had to have it removed as her health was deteriorating rapidly. After removal she naturally started eating more food each day but not excessively. However she very quickly started to retain Water in her belly and thighs. We thought it was Lipodema but it determined by a specialist that it was not. Her weight increased considerably. After a 1yr. + she underwent a gastric sleeve operation. It is now about 6 months later and she is retaining considerable water and has not lost as much weight as expected (about 40 lbs.) Does anyone have any thoughts on the water retainage condition. Thank you

Creekimp13 5,840 Posted January 7, 2018 Your wife should go in for a physical, have some tests, and determine the cause of her Water retention and see if it should be treated with a diuretic. Water retention can happen with everything from venous reflux, heart issues, kidney issues...to a diet too high in salt, obesity, etc. Some very simple harmless causes, and some complex serious causes. Don't guess...go to the doctor:) Best wishes.
