My husband just changed jobs and we have moved from CO to IL. I have been researching and preparing myself for surgery for almost 2 years. With my husbands insurance in CO I did not have to have the 6 month pre-op diet but now in IL his insurance is requiring it. I meet all of the other qualifications for approval just have to do the 6 months. I am so bummed. I was hoping to get the sleeve done ASAP I am so bad at waiting!!! Aaahhhh!

Any words of encouragement??

Or any ways around the 6 month requirement...

Did you start the process with your previous doctor, discuss weightloss at all? Perhaps they could provide the primary doctor clearance if you have not officially left their practice...

I totally understand you. I am a pretty impatient person myself. The one thing that helped me was actually trying to change my eating habits. It doesn't sound too hard but it really does take some practice. Start walking and start collecting recipes. Once I was cleared to eat regular food, I was scrambling to find food and quick recipes to eat because after a few weeks of eating the same thing, it can get pretty boring. In my case, I was tried of preparing for my and my family. So, I just started cooking meals that we all could eat. Also, take plenty of pictures. Have you thought about vlogging your process?

The average amount of weight people lose with sleeve...is 60% of their excess body weight.

Take these 6 months seriously...diet as seriously as you can and lose as much as you can....so that when you do get your sleeve, it will get you closer to your goal, and your metabolic reset will be closer to your goal.

Best wishes on your upcoming surgery.

The 6 months most insurances require was a great starting point. My surheon has a requirement thay you lose 5% of your body weight before surgery. He wants to ensure you can make the needed chamges to be successful. When i started felt the 6 months was a lifetime away, but with all the preop appts he scheduled, it was here in no time. Take these 6 months to get ready for your new life.

Thank the Lord my surgeon didn't give me that rule. My pre surg weight has stayed the same for a couple months, no one has complained but my clothes are a little looser so maybe the exercise is defluffing and its muscle? I'll grasp this straw cause I have been trying, want him to think about I can be as successful as you young chickens even if I'm built more like Scrooge's Christmas Goose.

I know how you feel but 6 months will fly by. I actually went to my PCP on Dec. 12 and we talked about weight loss and obesity. She refused to support weight loss surgery though, for anyone. So I had to find a new primary PCP. I found one that I really enjoy, but I doubt they will let my first appointment be with the old PCP because the appointments were 25 days apart and not 30. That small difference the is causing me to have to push back my surgery 2-3 months due to my work schedule. It is highly frustrating that my insurance requires 3 months of dieting, but the appointments have to be 30-35 days apart for them to count.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
