Sore throat/mouth

Recommended Posts

I have a sore throat that has been spreading up to roof of my mouth gradually, the are red spots and it is inflamed. No fever or other issues but it is getting progressively worse. I am concerned if it is acid but I have not had any heartburn symptoms. Has anyone else run into this? I am one month post-sleeve.

I have dr appointment Monday but was curious.

Sleeve date 12/4/17

Yikes sounds like thrush or strep throat. Definitely see the Dr on Monday.

If you have an affordable urgent care near you, I'd consider going sooner rather than waiting until Monday, particularly if you develop a fever.

In the mean time, swish every hour with warm mild salt Water, and rest.

I’ve heard a few people saying they’ve had thrush since their surgery. Is surgery a cause, or is it just coincidental? Awful. Sorry you’re having problems!

That sounds like strep throat. If it was thrush it probably would have started in your mouth and traveled down your throat, and would be more likely to be white spots in your mouth than red. Either way if you can do it go to urgent care, you probably need a prescription to treat whatever it is you have. Hope you get some relief!

I actually currently have strep throat. I had chills and fever for 2-3 days a massive sore throat headaches body aches weakness. You may have strep or you may not. But I agree don't wait go to the ER if your only option is to wait until Monday . It's been a crazy and rough week for me. I just started the antibiotics today so I hope I start to feel better soon. Good luck!

I agree with the others. get seen before Monday if at all possible. You want to get rid of infection as soon as possible. Especially since you are still healing from surgery.

Definitely get it checked out, sounds like some kind of infection (thrush, strep throat, something else?). Not worth it to wait the weekend, it could get much worse quickly. If you go to urgent care make sure to tell them about the surgery, it's possible the surgery introduced something that would be less common.

Feel better

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
