TammyA 77 Posted January 5, 2018 Hey everyone! I've been MIA for a bit. The holidays were a real challenge for me. Home with my 4 kids baking cooking and making gingerbread houses and all the things we love to do. I decided to give myself a bit of a break. Ate some Cookies and enjoyed the holiday. I didn't lose anything but I didn't gain either. Happy to say that after the 1st of January I got right back on track and am down 2 pounds... Having said all that...my daughter and I did some binge watching of This is Us over the break. I was surprised at the Kate story line where she considers having bariatric surgery and then decided not to because it was too risky. The doctor talked about an intense Vitamin regimen and all the things that would be potential "problems" with having the surgery. The character, Kate, decided to not to go through with it because it was so terrifying. Now, I know this is just a tv show, but having just gone through this surgery a few months ago I was disappointed they showed it in such a negative light. Of course, everyone has to do what's best for them personally, but I wonder if anyone watching the show was considering surgery and had second thoughts. Apple203 1,314 Posted January 5, 2018 I thought Kate did it for Toby -- 'cause he had surgery issues. I didn't think they handled it badly on the show, but its been a while since I saw it. 1 FluffyChix reacted to this
FluffyChix 17,415 Posted January 5, 2018 It's all in the script. Meaning...I think I heard somewhere that the actress's contract did not demand that she have actual WLS, but that she had to "lose weight" as part of the character portrayal? So I'm guessing that's just the ruse they settled upon to satisfy the story line. I doubt they gave any/little thought to how their position would or could impact those pursuing WLS decisions. You know? But hey, I'm probably wrong about that! 2 etc. etc. etc. and bluetink50 reacted to this

I've never seen bariatric surgery featured as a story line on a tv show, but you're right. They probably only thought about how it advanced their story. 1 bluetink50 reacted to this
