New; Considering Procedure

Recommended Posts

I'm new to this site and considering the procedure.

I would just like to discuss some questions I have and hear more from people that have had the procedure instead of the websites describing what will happen! :)

I really am just curious about your opinions of what you think isn't a plus to having the surgery.

Also, is there a lot of extra skin, scars from the procedure, etc.

It's all very new to me because I was determined to lose weight "naturally" but I've just decided that I need to do something and get my butt in shape, literally! :nervous

I don't think there are any negatives to the surgery at all. I do miss food sometimes though. The positive are naturally the weight loss and not being as hungry. I am considered a slower or average loser at 1 lb per week. I've been banded 16 months and I'm down 66 lbs so far. I am 25 lbs from goal. You just have to go into this as if you will only lose 1-2 lbs a week. Make sure you exercise. That really helps. Good luck.

Thanks. My goal is actually about 60-70lbs.

I hold my weight well, but there's no denying that I'm very overweight.

My BMI is well above the 30 that is required, but I've yet to meet with my PCP about it.

I wanted to o a little research on my own first.

Thanks for your help!

Only from my family, but they haven't heard that it goes by your BMI and not all weight.

DH is very supportive and just wants to see me get back to my goal weight and be happy. I was a size 5/7 all through Jr. High and part of high school but broke my ankle and VERY quickly gained a ton of weight.

After marriage and baby I've tried many things but I've kind of lost hope

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
