Do you like "Food Police" in your life? - Yes or No

Recommended Posts

I have always when someone tries to be my 'food police'. But i'm wondering, do you find having your significant other or bestie acting as your "Food Police" helpful or not?

Hummm helpful? for me no.

I'm my own food police..lol

People have their own opinions on what foods are correct.. I also noticed people get emotional/passionate about their way to eat to lose weight. It's a political topic..lol

Adults who police other adults....unless they are seriously invested in the situation (spouse, child)...in my opinion are annoying, rude, and potentially bullying. Fat shaming is one of the last protected ugly prejudices. People can be unkind using "but it's for their own good" as an excuse for their unkindness.

My significant other and my bestie don't police me, but they are extremely supportive and try to be helpful.

There's a huge difference between "Should you be eating that?" and "What can I make that's on your diet so we can both enjoy it?"

There's also a huge difference between advice that's given from a place of genuine love and concern...and advice that's given out of a sense of pious superiority or nastiness.

Semantics matter.

My father was a "food cop." His behaviour is partially responsible for where I am today. I think the "food police" is detrimental.

No "food police" allowed in my life. I need to control myself, that's why I took this drastic step. I have made myself very open to questions and I do sometimes get the "I wasn't sure if you were allowed to 'have' that"...I just very politely say that I am an adult and I can have whatever I want in moderation and end it there.

I don't want anyone to police me because it triggers feelings of losing control and that activiates my rebellious nature and causes me to spiral.

My brother thinks he's an honorary member of the food police around me. He will see me eating a half flatout wrap with a grilled salmon patty and tomato/spinach, and ask if I should be eating the wrap...All while he is eating his salmon patty on a 200+ calorie buttered bun with mayo, two slices of cheese, no veggies, and French fries on the side. I just have to laugh. I know he cares, but it is funny nonetheless. I just pull out myFitnessPal, and show him my food stats. That usually gets him to zip it.

For some reason, I keep having to tell him that I am not on a Keto or other low carb diet. Oh well, he is the only one that ever comments about what I eat. Everyone else just keeps their comments/questions to themselves.

THAT has NEVER worked for me!! I also get angry and it will make me want the bad stuff all the more!! I don't need anyone telling me what I can or cannot eat or drink!!! I don't find it helpful at all! I have spent my life with others looking and telling me what and how to diet and eat!! Nothing makes me madder than someone commenting on what and how much I am eating!!

Absolutely. If you want to piss me off, comment on my food and eating.

No, I can't stand "food police." I'm a grown ass woman . . . I can decide what and how much I'm going to eat. :) Even if I make the wrong choices, they are my choices to make.

That being said, my husband is extremely supportive and he has nice ways of pointing out when I am headed down the wrong path. That doesn't bother me at all. I don't think of that as policing me as much as just helping me see a pattern of behavior.

I freaking love the food police and tbh i am my own officer now. Now that i eat well i don't mind and it keeps me in track because i really dont need certain foods.

If i didn't have that support, i would probably still be fat and that's not fun.

That's like asking "Do you like having a constantly nagging spouse in your life? - Yes or No?"

That's going to be a "no". If I choose to eat something, I choose to eat it. I don't need someone breathing down my neck, criticizing my choices. As an ADULT, I feel I have the freedom to do as I please. Sometimes that may mean an excursion from what I'm "supposed" to be doing, and most of the time it'll be following the rules; I don't need someone telling me what's what.

My parents did a number on me in the 70s and 80s being the food police. I wasn’t even fat back then just hungry and stressed from them moving food away from me and yelling about my looks! I was just a kid and teenager. They were in the age of looks are more important than smarts for girls. So dumb. I was a gorgeous kid but always thought I was ugly and a cow because of them. I walked around sucking in my stomach. So no. FOOD POLICE SUCK! I

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
