2 weeks post-op and hungry

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on 10/10/07. I'm finding that I'm starting to get really hungry, is this normal? I'm eating smaller meals but get hungry in between meals. Doc said to only have 3 small meals a day, no snacking, and so far I have done that but it's getting harder and harder to do. I have noticed that the last few days I have been eating a little more than I think I should be (it's that time of the month). Also, I weighed this morning and gained one of the pounds back that I lost :) Any tips? I'm not scheduled to go back to the doctor until 11/15/07 and that's just for a checkup, not a fill. :help:

Force yourself to weigh yourself only once a week. That may help some. Don't obsess over the scale. If hungry, pop in a Viactiv Calcium chew. It works for me. If not, then I go to stage two...a cup of coffee...if it's DEFCON 4 hunger, then I eat a Muscle Milk pudding.< /p>

I am experiencing the same thing. I was banded on 10/11 and scale says I have gained back 2 lbs. I eat small meals but get hungry between. My doctor has me on low carbs and finding in between Snacks is hard. I get my first fill on 11/9 (can't wait).

I had the same problem. As they say on this board "welcome to bandster hell". The only thing that I can say is that you have to use a little (ok, a lot) willpower. Also, try to load up on Protein first and avoid bad carbs (white stuff) this will help control your hunger.

You do not have a fill yet. That is why you are hungry. Eat sf popsicles. They help and they take a while to eat. It will get better. Donna

I was banded on 10/8 and have experienced the same hunger but my doctor requires 4 post-op weeks of liquids. I am drinking (per their recommendation) 3-4 ounces of Protein every hour and then having SF Popsicles, broth, or cream Soup to help. (I actually have 5-7 ounces of cream soup for dinner every night - that is kind of my one meal a day) Drinking every hour is a little annoying but it stops my stomach from trying to eat my backbone. I have lost 11 pounds since 10/8, lots of will power. I know this may not work for everyone but it works well for me.

I have been drinking "50 Grand Slam" from GNC store as my protein - 50 grams per can of protein and the banana Creme and Cookies & Creme are sustaining me - they are by far the best for my taste buds!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
