"He didn't Have surgery".... rant

Recommended Posts

Sitting here watching home and family, they were discussing obesity in humans and dogs. How to tackle both at once. The lady was raving about the guy losing weight running with his dog... and made a bold emphasis when she said, " He didn't Have surgery...". Okay, congrats to the guy. I'm proud he changed his life. But, a really big congrats to all y'all who had sleeve or bypass. It's not the easy way out. And everyone tried other ways beforehand that didn't work. So, y'all made a LIFELONG commitment to improve your lives... to undergo surgery and recovery... to be a baby again and go thru the eating phases including a long period of time of mainly forcing down those "delicious" Protein drinks..To puree food into must...To be on very strict diet during these phases...To give up carbonation even if it's sugar free...To stick a needle in yourself every month to get your B12 levels right... to longingly look at all the variety of foods at a party and know if you do cheap, it's only a few selective bites and you may get sick for just that... I could list many more that apply to other people or myself. Short point, it's not the easy route. The cravings don't go away with that portion of stomach you lost. It still takes willpower and lots of commitment. So even if some of the world can't understand, I CONGRATULATE YOU!

There are always going to be the naysayers, the people that brag about their success without surgery. Research statistics state that 90% will regain the weight they lost, plus more. Let them have their say. Post surgery, when you lose weight, you could be the part of the 65% who keep it off for good. :)

And even if it were easier, why would that be a bad thing? Anyone who has decided to go the surgery route has certainly exhausted all other options....no one chooses this because dieting is hard...we choose it because dieting doesn't work long term.

You're correct. The only thing that matters is long term success and weight loss surgery speaks for itself. The long term success is ~65%. I like those odds.

Well said peeps!! I have my nails done by this young lady, her family consists of 2 boys and a girl plus her hubby. The very 1st time I went to her she commented that she had lost "HER" weight without WLS> It almost made e want to go to someone else, then I thought I can tell her everything that I have been thru and maybe she will become educated about WLS. So I stayed...and I talked to her about WLS. I really don't know if she gets it but I told her the plain truth how we all know this is NOT THE EASY way out!! We still talk about weight and she every once and awhile she has to remind me all of her exercise programs. just like us all. But guess what she is struggling too. I have a very hard time when I hear people say it is the easy way out. Even my hubby has said this (and he had a Sleeve) now he knows better to say it to me. ONWARD WARRIORS!! We have GOT THIS!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
