I am 21 Days post op and so hungry. I noticed that i can eat more than 2 oz of soft Protein, but still hungry 30 mins later. My diet plan is 2oz of protein 3 times a day with 2-3 Protein Shakes. i am getting 2 protein shakes in a day and averaging about 32- 40 oz of Water, however i find myself still hungry and craving like crazy. Am i alone in this and any suggestions

I would think you need a change in diet to keep up with your hunger. Call your surgeon and/or NUT and see what they say. Maybe it’s time for the next phase for you. Good luck!

Head hunger is the most common type of hunger at your stage. I don't say that to belittle your situation, but it is fact. Are you hitting your Fluid intake daily? Many times we confuse hunger with thirst.

I just went through my old post to find when I moved to solids, and it sounds like I was about 1 month post op when I was approved to eat anything. So that would put me at 3 weeks post op for firm Protein. When you finally do get cleared to eat solids, be wary. Mine did not go well. Do it at home and be extra cautious and diligent chewing. I don't recommend chicken starting out. Ground beef would be a good start.

Oh Lordy! I’m a week post op and I’ve never looked at food or thought of food like I have in the last month! I want everything. Lol. I actually skipped my last Protein Shake because I was so upset I couldn’t have food. I was no in the mood to drink it. And I hate the routine. I’ve began to get moody because I can’t have a nice piece of meat. It’s so hard my craving is strong I can’t wait until I move on to my puréed diet. Some facts are I can’t drink more than 16 oz a day without being full, I can’t drink my 8oz Protein shake only 4oz. And I can’t tolerate my Vitamins without wanting to gag and throw them up. My nurse told me to wait a few days to continue taking the vitamins as long as I’m hydrated. Feel hydrated but I am not taking 64oz a day!

I'm 5 weeks out and I haven't experienced head hungry but man oh man have my taste buds change from week to week. One week I like one thing and the next I'm like keep that away from me. The only things I've had cravings for are a salad and salsa. Think positive and remember you will get through this!! You got this!!

2 weeks out and I’m starving by lunch and dinner, and that’s while having 2 Protein Shakes a day, 2 cans of baby food meat, and 2 baby food fruits and veggies, AND with 64 oz of Water a day and no caffeine. I have my follow up with the surgeon on Friday and I’ll bring it up then. Would be great to advance to soft foods early!

Does anybody know why we’re so hungry after surgery? I thought the sleeve was supposed to greatly curtail hunger but I’m starving!! My surgery was Jan 2 and I’m still on a liquid only diet. I’ve thought more than once about trying a tiny bit of Peanut Butter. Can’t wait til Monday when I can add retried Beans and sf pudding. I’m constantly thinking about food.

I was sleeved 9/21/17...

i was terribly hungry the first two weeks . It’s “mind” hungry and it went away for me. You will go through so many phases of different feelings emotionally and physically . I promise if you try to satisfy that hunger with something before it’s time ... it’s not worth it . Protein Shakes will help . I use sugar free carnation vanilla and add fruit to it. I still do this to get some of my Protein .

Remember as you burn fat, stored hormones can get released so it's not uncommon to feel moody, or even cranky, the first couple of months. You really don't need vitamins the first few weeks. Focus on your liquids - that's hard enough. Stay on plan and it gets better with time. It will be worth it when the pounds are falling off. Hang in there!

By 21 days I was eating 1000 calories a day and felt pretty darned good. Three meals, three snacks...each about 150-200 calories. Protein target 80g+

Not all doctors advise you to starve yourself.

Newer long term research (10 years +)suggests that having your metabolic reset occur on a starvation metabolism will hurt your weight loss maintenance long term.

Eat when you're hungry. Just get your protein and don't eat junk.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
