6 days post op sleeve NEED ADVICE PLEASE!

Recommended Posts

Hi my name is Sarah I had my gastric sleeve procedure 6 days ago. I’m getting concerned that maybe I’m drinking too much fluids like my broths and Water alternatives? I remember my nutritionist saying it should take me an hour to finish a water bottle but I can drink it normally in a drastically shorter amount of time at this stage. I’m also able to drink ALOT of broth 2 cups at a time and not feel full but not hungry either. Is this normal? Has anyone else been able to do this a week after their surgery? I’m getting paranoid maybe I’ve over done it? I’ve also lost 10 pounds so far don’t know if that’s a normal range

Congrads on your surgery. I am scheduled on 1/8. Check with your surgeon. I am so happy that you are not having any problems keeping hydrated. This is my worry. They should tell you if you are overdoing it but you can't expand your sleeve on just clear liquid. Good luck!

Had my sleeve on 12/28 . I’m drinking lots too. I’m talking to my surgeons nurse here after while to see if that’s normal.

I too was able to drink normally after surgery. Consider it a blessing that you'll be able to meet your hydration goals easily!

Also, I was hungry on the liquid phase. Once you introduce solids you'll definitely feel your new stomach. I literally had a half a meatball for dinner 🤔.

Congrats on your surgery!

Omg thank you I was getting worried. I am hungry too lol I’ve been able to hold down little bits of cottage cheese well as part of the funnel diet they have me on. Have you experience the pain of overeating? It’s something I’m terrified of lol. Congrats on your surgery too!

Thank you! Sadly, I have...
It's definitely part of re-learning eating. Your head says, it's a quarter of a chicken breast, ha! - easy. But your stomach says otherwise. Plus, I eat too fast. The pain is dull and uncomfortable - sorta like bad gas pain but in my back rib area. I try to get up and walk/pace when I can and it's gone in about a minute. As much as you listen to your body there will be times that one food fills you much differently than another. You'll be okay!

I’m one week out today and was worried about the same thing. I can drink a Protein Shake in 15-20 minutes. I don’t wanna overdo it and wonder why my body isn’t sending me clear signs. So glad to hear I’m not the only one!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
