Recommended Posts

Has anyone had gastric bypass with Dr Wagner at St Francis in Memphis Tennessee? I got the approval from the insurance but still waiting on my patient advocate to call me for a date. Just need some advice

I am using them too. My surgery date is the 16 of January. Dr. Weaver left the practice when her contract was over so it is just Dr. Wegner. I have Betty Coble as my patient advocate. I started my journey with a surgery consultation on March 15, 2017.

I have Betty as well. She is really nice. How long did it take her to call you and set a date? I have my approval but no date

I know I have to reach my insurance deductible. I’m nervous though because I was told that you have to pay something before your surgery date is set. My only thing is I hope Betty calls me soon because I want to be fully recovered y my graduation in March

How soon after you got your insurance approval did Betty contact you for a surgery date?

My insurance required another meeting in November with the nutrionist and the doctor. I assumed mine would have been in the summer. I got my surgery date at my last appointment on November 1.

Well I don't have an exact date she just told me based on my pre op date she said it should be at the end of February

This is going to be horrible for me. I don’t have a pre op date which means mine may be around that time as well. This also means my birthday, Feb 24th, might be spent in the hospital. And then after that, I graduate grad school March 3rd. I really pay I can have everything done before then.

It is normally 2 weeks after preop testing and registration that you would start your 2 week diet. I would email her and call her. She may be out of office again.

I emailed her and she said she would call me. Any idea what the preop testing consists of? I thought I was done with all of that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
