I am 3 weeks out and just got to the point I can make it through the day without a nap, but I'm still exhausted. It's normal, as your body is adjusting to you taking in far less fuel. Part of why a lot of people hit a stall around week 2 or 3 is because your body needs to adjust to the new way of eating. Continue to take your Vitamins and work at getting your Protein in, and it should get better!

Oh goodness yes, after my surgery I was so tired all the time - it lasted about 8 weeks. I thought I would never return to normal but of course I did. My surgeon said it had a lot to do with the anesthesia - it just took me a while to get over surgery but eventually, you will start feeling like yourself again. Rest when you can, it is okay. If it goes on too long, talk to your doctor.

I wonder if you ever get your strength back

You will. Your body has been through a major surgery and on top of it you aren't giving it a lot of fuel to work with. If you're like me who was a carb junkie prior to surgery it seemed like I had my legs cut off without carbs in my diet. Although I didn't sleep any extra (outside of a rare nap here or there) I felt run down most days and doing the simplest of tasks wore me out quickly. I remember running the vaccum about 3 weeks after surgery and even that was a chore. For me it was around week 4 where I felt I was starting to come back to normal. Don't stress about it. You'll be back to normal before you know it.

Your body is spending all its energy on healing you from the inside out, so you will be tired. Also, for some folks, the anesthesia cocktail has a "tail" effect that leaves you feeling like crap for a couple of weeks. Be kind to yourself. You just had a major surgical procedure - think of it as if you had your appendix out or just had a c-section - you wouldn't expect to be 100% at 2 weeks. Give your body time and be kind to yourself. Rest when you can and really push the fluids - staying hydrated early on makes a big difference. Consider using some Powerade Zero which is like Gatorade, but no sugar.

Best of luck.

I am happy to see I'm not the only one. I am 2 days post op. I can't keep my eyes open. I am drinking only about 30 oz. Of Water and taking in 9 oz of Protein Shakes (3oz at each meal time). All I hear is walk walk walk...but you do need sleep as well...I'm nervous to sleep 8 hrs. At night. Has anyone felt this way?

YES. I'm 2 weeks post-op and so tired I can barely see straight. One of my lungs collapsed in surgery and isn't fully healed yet, so that's partly why I tire easily, but I also think it's because I'm eating so little food. I track my food and I'm generally only managing about 250 calories/day. I'm losing weight like crazy but I feel like crap. :( I'm glad to read some of these comments saying I'll feel normal again soon because it sure doesn't feel like it. I also have to return to work next week (I foolishly thought 10 days off work would be enough and ended up taking an additional week), plus I have some work travel coming up at the end of the month. I need to feel normal again!!

Now I am 10 days post op. Right this second I feel so nauseous. My Vitamins, Celebrate, make me so sick feeling. God I can't wait until my new vitamins come on Monday. I also am feeling weak. I think the lack of calories is the cause. Plus I have been walking one mile to one and a half miles a day. Ugh. I hope you feel better Kaydo!!! I hear it gets better too!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
