Chest pains and burping after eating

Recommended Posts

So this is the second time I’ve had this happen. I’m 4 weeks post off. First time I ate a scrambled egg ate a couple bites and had super bad chest pains and was burping a lot. Lasted about 45 minutes. Second was tonight. I had a few bites of a turkey burger. Just the party and again, awful chest pains and burping. No nausea but I almost feel when I burp that I may throw up. Does anyone know what this is? Anyone experience it too? I don’t think I’m eating to fast so wondering if the foods don’t agree or it’s to dense.

I am 2.5 week’s post op and have experienced the same thing a few times. Once it happened when I tried the tiniest piece of ham that I thought I chewed at least 1000 times! I’ve stuck to cream Soups since then and hadn’t had it happen since. But it was awful. I think I was pushing my tummy too much. Try slowing down and eating even less. Good luck! :-)

The transition to solid foods such as steak and chicken can be rough. As a result, I relied on softer foods such as chili and Soups. There is no need to rush this transition, just take your time. I have included some recipes for chili and soups at the end of the following article. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

I’m four weeks post op bypass. I get this feeling of sharp pain in my chest if I eat too big of a bite, eat too fast, or do not chew enough. That is your pouch telling you to slow down. It happens especially if I take it too quick with a bit of a denser Protein, and my progression of diet is pretty slow compared to some I have seen.

I would definitely back it down or try softer Proteins. Be aware of the size of the bites. I have to be so careful of how fast I eat, that’s always been a huge problem for me. I’m forcing myself to put my utensil down and chew chew chew.

Happens every time I have chicken or turkey. It made for a really uncomfortable and embarrassing episode at a holiday party! I seem to be fine with everything else, but poultry only seems to work out for me if it's deli slices or in Soup.

Could be eating too much/too soon/the wrong things/too fast

Or GERD is a legit possibility (when I see burping and chest pain GERD is at the top of my list).

Though If you had a bypass I'd say it's the first thing, if you had a sleeve GERD is very realistic

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
