Pre op diet-lost 2lbs?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone followed the pre op liquid diet perfectly and not lost any weight? I’m on day 10, have not cheated (given permission to eat 4oz of turkey and 1oz veg at Christmas) and I’ve lost maybe 2 lbs? My weight changes daily +-4lbs. So I cant tell if the 2lbs is a real loss. I’m kind of worried that my suspicions are true that I have some sort of underlying condition that caused me to gain 75lbs in 2 years. I’ve been to every dr, had every test already in those last 2 years and it all comes back fine.

I had my final pre op appt today and my surgeon isn’t concerned that I didn’t lose weight. I’m getting the surgery no matter what, but I’d like to ease my mind a little that this liquid diet doesn’t always yield weight loss results for everyone, but I can still have success after surgery. I’m 40 years old, 5’8, and a bmi of 39.

My PA actually mentioned this to me. "Most people will lose ten pounds plus or minus, but occasionally, you won't lose at all on the pre-surg diet. It doesn't mean you're broken. Don't panic if you don't lose."

My PA is severely type one diabetic, and she, herself, didn't lose anything on the pre-surg diet.

I had the good luck to lose a few pounds on it....but I know there are people who really don't, or who only lose a very minimal amount.

It's ok. You're unusual, but not unheard of:)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
